I’m channel surfing and I stumble on John Hagee selling his " Prophecy " tapes in which he promises to teach us who the harlot described in the book of Revelation is. Wink- wink, it is the RCC, i’m sure.
I used to know how to refute that as I read tons of books about it from commentaries from the Collegeville and New Jerome to the book Rapture: The End Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind " In a few lines can it be summarized why these preachers are wrong.

I don’t know if this will help, but I’ve heard the argument that Revelation refers to the city on seven hills and Rome sits on seven hills. Well, so does Cincinnatti. Probably a lot of other cities as well.

Also, got this from Catholic Answers website concerning the alledged “mark of the beast” on the Pope’s miter:

catholic.com/newsletters/kke_030930.asp

I included an excerpt from it here:
[Half way through the very lengthy text, the ad identified the beast of Revelation as the Pope. “The title of the Pope reads: ‘Vicarius Filii Dei,’ that is, ‘In place of the Son of God.’”
Well, two mistakes here. “Vicarius Filii Dei” is not a title of the Pope. The proper title is “Vicarius Christi.” And “Vicarius Filii Dei” does not mean “In place of the Son of God” but “Vicar [Representative] of the Son of God.” The translation given in the ad suggests that the Pope shoves aside the Son of God and takes over his place.
In fact, the ad claims that this incorrect title means that the Pope is calling himself God. Even if this were a title of the Pope, that would not be its import, and the proper title, “Vicarius Christi” (“Vicar [Representative] of Christ”) is even further removed from such a misconstrual.
Just in case the reader does not find the bogus title sufficiently alarming, the ad goes on to note that the numerical value of the letters in “Vicarius Filii Dei” add up to 666, the number of the Beast. Quite so, but note that the title “Vicarius Christi” does not add up to 666. The Adventists turned to a similar-sounding title because they needed the right tally. It would do them no good to use a real Latin title for the Pope, if that title adds up only to 214, which is the case with “Vicarius Christi.”]

Rev 11:8 - And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was Crucified.

Jesus was not crucified in Rome, but in Jerusalem.

Rev 18:24 - And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Jerusalem is where prophets and saints were murdered and also from which the persecution of Christians began.

John Hagee is anti Catholic, and in my opinion, a false prophet. " be careful of what you hear "

Harlot in Revelation represents all false teachings about God.

At the end of time God will judge all religions (including all churches and other temples), and separate the virgin from the harlot.

The virgin is the one who brought forth God’s sons & daughters.

God bless.

.
jerusalem sits on 7 hills as well as rome (and as some one pointed out earlier, cincinnati, oh. maybe the bengals are the harlot and mike brown is the anti-christ.)

not to mention the fact that the Vatican itself is only on one hill, and its hill is NOT one of the 7 hills of ancient Rome (modern Rome now covers over 20 hills)

The sig quote is from `Songs from the Wood’, and i beleive is from the title track. (Jethro Tull, I beleive?)

When Jesus is asked, “What must I do to share in everlasting life?”, Jesus answers, “Obey the commandments” (Mark 10:17). Jesus tells us that those who do not clothe and feed the least of his brothers will be “thrown into the fire prepard for the devil and his angles” (Mathew 25:31-46). Who, besides Satan (Genisis 3), advises you that you certianly will not die for disregarding the commands of the Father and Jesus? Catholocism or Protestantism?

A protestant minister told me that they do not follow the gospel of Jesus which teaches us to obey God’s commandments and do works if we wish to go to heaven because all that changed after Christ’s death. According to the Protestant minister they instead follow the “post ressurection” teachings of St. Paul in which, according to Protestants, you do not have to do works of obedience, love and alms giving to go to heaven through Jesus.

NAB MAT 24:11

False prophets will rise in great numbers to mislead many. Because of the increase in evil, the love of most will grow cold. The man who holds out to the end, however, is the one who will see salvation.

For two thousand years the Catholic Church has stressed the importance of obeying God with all your heart to go to heaven through Jesus blood. It is only in the past few centuries that false prophets have risen up to teach anti Christ’s teachings.

A man’s strength in battle or at work is in his arm, wrist and hand. To bind God’s commandments on your wrist is to write them on your strength. When Christ returns it is His and the Father’s commands that he will be looking for as the mark faith on the strength of your arm, on the forehead of your mind, in your heart, and on your soul. Do not be fooled by the beast who does not want the Father and Jesus’ commands as a pendant on your forehead, arm, heart and soul.

**NAB DEU 11:18 **

“Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead. Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. And write them on the doorposts or your houses and on your gates, **so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.” ****“For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,…” **

**NAB REV 14:9 **

A third angel followed the others and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast or its image, or** accepts its mark on his forehead or hand**, he too will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger. He will be tormented in burning sulphur before the Lamb, and the smoke of their torment shall rise forever and ever. There shall be no relief day or night for those who worship the beast or its image or accept the mark of its name. This is what sustains the holy ones, who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. I heard a voice from heaven say to me: “write this down: Happy now are the dead who die in the Lord!” The Spirit added, "Yes, they shall find rest from their labors, for their good works accompany them."

Peace in Christ

What did Catholics believe to be the “Harlot of Revelation” before the Protestans came along?

Seattle is also built on 7 hills.

I vote for Cincinnati to be The Whore of Babylon and the Mother of all Harlots, for no reason in particular.

This very website (catholic.com) has a couple of excellent on-line pamphlets on the “Whore of Babylon.”

As far as Hagee is concerned, even when I was a Protestant I turned him off because I caught him in an outright lie. He was doing a series about Islam and was selling a tape containing imams saying horrible things about America (true enough–they were letting us have it). He said that the excerpts came from hidden cameras smuggled into the mosques. Actually, they came from open broadcasts of Friday services carried on Arab satellite TV networks.

The man is a liar. If he said the sun was shining and the sky was clear, I’d still look outside before I believed him.

If you count the hills in Seattle I think you will aslo come up with 7. Isn’t 7 the perfect number?
