I just found this movie, it’s based on a short story by Kurt Vonnegut about a future America where everyone is completely equal. Anyone who is more talented or intelligent is “handicapped” to make them more normal. Presidents, congressmen, governors, &c are not elected, they are chosen by lottery – given the current situation that doen’t sound like such a bad idea.

The movie is actually an improvement on the short story.

This movie sounds great, and you’re right, the lottery form of government would be an improvement.

In one scene the President, a steelworker from Pittsburgh, has given Morocco 24 hours to dismantle a “t-bomb” they had built. His advisors are worried, telling him you can’t talk to foreign leaders like that, warning of fallout &c.
He responds in the most obscene terms. Suddenly a messenger comes in saying his proposal have been accepted. Not to name names but it occurred to me that it might not be a bad thing to have an irrationally unpredictable commander-in-chief.

Sorry, as a Canadian I am constitutionally ineligible to serve.
