yeah, there is alot of her background that does come across in her writing… She seems to understand alot of Catholic concepts…

like Exorcism! As I was watching the film for the second time, I really wondered about that ending… dumbledorr performes what is essentially an Exorcism… and that was really surprising to me… it really stuck out. Even in the wizzarding world, they have demonic possession as a problem…
I’m not sure that it was Dumbledore’s doing as much as Harry’s. It was really Harry’s telling Voldemort how he had love and friendship and Voldemort didn’t that freed him.

It was dumbledorr that prompted his soul to fight back when he kept on telling him the truth that he always has control of his own actions and body and that he’ll always be loved. He kept on telling him to fight back.

I actually prefer Harry’s response in the book over the movie. In the movie he tell Voldemort that he (Harry) has what Voldemort will never have, love and friendship. In the book he says to Voldemort ‘Just kill me, at least then i’ll be with Sirius’. To me that was a much more powerful way of saying that he had love. It was so heart wrenching because you could feel Harry’s complete pain and despare at that moment.

She’s Church of Scotland. Is a church that came out of the Scottish Reformation. It is Presbyterian in organization and Reformed (Calvinistic not Lutheran) in it’s theology.
Historically. However, today being a member of the Church of Scotland doesn’t mean that you are an orthodox Calvinist in your theology. It is equivalent to a “mainline Protestant” denomination in the U.S. (actually the specific equivalent would be the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.). It’s Calvinistic in the sense of not believing in the bodily presence of Christ in the Eucharist and having very little ritual and a strong emphasis on preaching, etc. I.e., what most of us would think of as generically Protestant.

So you people think there is no anti-Christian bigotry in Harry potter?

Well, if you read the article you would know that there is, its very simple and clear.

Harry Potter paints anti-witchcraft people in a very bad way.

Who are the anti-witchcraft people?

The answer, Christians, Catholics!

Christian/Catholic conservatives!! That’s who!!

That is why Harry Potter is anti-Christian and anti-Catholic.

This immoral book is trying to trick children into being against those who are anti-witchcraft.

That is anti-Christian/Catholic bigotry.

All Christians/Catholics should have boycotted this immoral book from the very beginning.

Congratulations people you just squandered your time, money and your childrens minds and hearts on an immoral anti-Christian/Catholic book.

No, even more after I finished book 7.

Actually, if you read the book, it is a literaly device to move the story along. Also, the book is clearly marked as fiction.
That is anti-Christian/Catholic bigotry.
No, not everyone feels that way, there is nothing against organized religions in it.

Actually, the book has some very moral themes all through it presented in ways that children can understand. There are “Christian”-like overtones in the books and even the climax of book 7 has some parallels.

I will continue to recommend this fantasy series to everyone who asks about it.

The villains of the books are not “anti-witchcraft,” they are evil wizards. The only “anti-witchcraft” people mentioned are the Dursleys. Are you seriously claiming that the Dursleys are Catholic, or conservative Christians of any sort? Don’t you see that they live a completely materialistic lifestyle, obsessed with money and status? Does this sound like conservative Christianity to you? Your problem is that you don’t understand imaginative writing, so you assume that if people who don’t like magic are portrayed unflatteringly, then Rowling is criticizing real-world people who don’t like real witchcraft. This is plain silly. If you must read it on such a literal level, then you have to explain the completely materialistic, non-religious lifestyle of the Dursleys. When do they go to Mass? Where is there a crucifix in their living room? If you are going to say “Oh, but they are a symbol of conservative Christians,” then the game is up, because you also have to accept that “magic” may be symbolic for something other than literal witchcraft.

There’s a best-selling book which is full of murder, disobedience, witchcraft, betrayal, lying, blasphemy, cruelty, violence, incest, adultery, & similar unpleasant things. It’s been a best-seller far longer than anything by J.K. Rowling. And it is recommended to children. Anti-Christian ? Anti-family ? Yes indeed: one of the characters spends a lot of time breaking families up - how is that a good example to the young ?

Yet this immoral book is easily available, in many languages. Here is a link to this appalling publication.

Congratulations- the only thing we’ve been wasting is the time we’ve spent arguing with you.

Did anyone else notice that the fifth film contains what is essentially an Exorcism at the end of it?

I just contemplated this, but i think in the future HP will be seen to many pro-christian and quite pro-catholic themes to it. I recognized this from the start at least in the first film, in the flashback sequence with his mother… but there is perhaps a strong pro-christian message in there and possibly strong pro-catholic theme.

Has Rowling taken a page out of Tolkien’s stuff? I wonder.
As several have mentioned in this thread, the end of book 7 is pretty much a Christian metaphor. It’s all about love and redemptive suffering. Pretty Catholic! At least Christian. Not a thing wrong with these books unless someone can’t tell fiction from reality.
