I just had a flash of a tract like The Visitors, but with visitor after visitor, all the con artists, self-promoters and mentally ill people, who have used Chick over the years, and someone standing there telling their real stories but not getting through to the host, who ends up printing off books and making tapes and comics for these people…
Or one like the Death Cookie but with a scruffy guy representing the one who first denied the Real Presence, I think it was Zwingli, and the story of all the wars that followed…
Oh, this is neat. Someone could draw a whole Crusaders Comic parody, in which Alberto tells his tale to two well-groomed men, who counter with evidence that he’s a con artist and show scenes from his life, glowingly colored and detailed, and the parenthetical captions explain where he got so many stories from – who Maria Monk was and so forth. At the end he is stammering and changing his story. He walks away as fast as he can into the night, waits for a cab and thinks about what else he can do for a living and for revenge on those who have slighted him. He goes through a series of thought ballons about all kinds of other conspiracy theories and finally can’t keep thm straight and says something like, “That’s it! Aaargh! This is way too hard. It would be easier if some people didn’t read so much.”
That might be too complicated. But it would be a new level of parody.
