Has anyone been to or started a Parenting your Teenager workshop in your parish?

I do youth ministry at our parish. Recently I acquired a 6 week program developed by Christian Psychologists regarding Parenting your Teenager. After reviewing it, I find it very compelling, but I wondered if any other parish has tried this and how sucessful it was. I would appreciate anyone’s (name removed by moderator)ut.

Or if you are a parent of a teenager, would you consider attending a workshop like this? It involves, videos & discussion, bible readings, and role playing. Real families are in the videos, not actors.

Actually, I was thinking of suggesting a program on exactly this subject for our parish women’s group. The parish had a Catholic counselor speak to the Confirmation class. I approached her and she said she would be willing to talk to the parents. I am somewhat wary of non-Catholic Christian programs because sometimes they have non-Catholic views (by faith alone, sola scriptura) and don’t embrace the beauty of our Catholic faith (such as penance, the Eucharist).

Believe it or not, I was sceptical about that same thing but after reviewing the tapes, there is nothing about that at all. They really approach it with Christian values to support the structure of the family. I hope it works at your parish. It seems like we need to do more for parents to strengthen the family. The media and culture certainly have done nothing but provided deterrents for healthy lifestyles. Especially the crazy shows about “I cannot control my teen who wants to dress like a …”
