I was told that if I were to get pregnant before I ovulate, I’d have a girl, and if it happens after I ovulate, it will be a boy?
To me, this sounds kind of crazy. If it were that easy to predict, wouldn’t more people know about it?
Just wondering if anyone else out there has heard anything like this.
Thanks. 😃

If I am deciphering this correctly, what they were talking about is timing intercourse to attempt to have a boy or girl.

Female sperm are larger, slower swimmers, but live longer. Male sperm is smaller, swims faster, but doesn’t live as long. Cervical mucus (CM) can keep sperm alive for up to about 5 days when it’s peak type mucus.

So, some books on fertility and conceiving suggest timing intercourse to sex select through charting. In theory, having intercourse when CM first starts and then not having sex again should increase the chances of a girl. Waiting until within 1 day of ovulation should increase the chances of a boy.

it is called the shuttles method of sex selection. from reading on message boards at ovusoft it works about 75% of the time

I have three girlfriends that did this…one has 5 children and she “picked” the sex of the child each time and each time it worked… the other two gals have two kids and they also used it and it worked…
Me I leave it to Mother Nautre…as long as they are healthy I dont care what the sex of the child is:D

According to Shettles, my kids should be the opposite of what they are…LOL – my son was in the “well, we should be out of the seriously “baby days” of this month, and if God wants it, we can’t stop it anyway, so let’s go!” column, and my daughter – well, we were “actively trying” to put it mildly…so there goes that theory…I always tell people, it’s a gift – would you tell someone “if you’re going to buy me something, make it red please, not green” – lol. 😉

I agree with you guys about just wanting the baby to be healthy.
I think she was just suggesting this to me because she thinks I need a girl. I get that a lot from people. “You need a girl”, “don’t you want to try again for a girl?”, etc, etc.
I would love to have a girl, but that is up to God to decide.
I was curious to see if anyone else had heard of this theory she was telling me about. Thank you all for answering me. I’m happy to hear other people have heard of this. I thought it was kind of strange. lol
Also, some other questions I have were answered in all of your posts. (like how long sperm lives, etc)
Thanks all!

My husband believes he was able to predict the sex of each of our children based on when I got preganant. With our girls (2) we always thought that we were still basically “safe” - early in the cycle (like day 10 in a 30 day cycle) but with our boys I got pregnant RIGHT on the day that I believed I was ovulating. With my current pregnancy, once again we thought it was too early to get preganant… but I found out I’m having a girl… so there you go.

Maybe all of this is coinsidence though… ??? Because there have been LOTS of times I thought I’d get pregnant and didn’t… bottom line… it’s all up to God.

I have heard of it in NFP class, and it worked for us

three times in a row.

i never thought i’d care about the sex but my son’s circumcision was such a horrible experience i might try for girls as DH and I don’t agree on not circ future boys. i don’t know though, it seems like i should leave it up to God, but then again once you know how to chart you can turn off the knowlege…even if when we were TTC and didn’t chart i’d still know.

Yep, I’m with you there!! I’m at the point where I don’t even chart anymore either…watch the temps (sometimes), watch the cm, and we’re either “off” of “on” – LOL!

LoL

Well, I’ll leave it up to God to choose what sex my next child should be.

I think its funny how so many people know when they conceived, I don’t know when exactly I conceived my first and unless something serious comes up that I have to follow my cycle carefully, or unless some special circumstances arise, odds are I probably won’t ever know for any of my future children.

one reason i think it is important to know when you conceive is that doctors force inductions so frequently for ‘your time is up’. if someone has come of the pill or is nursing they may ovulate very late in the cycle and actually induce a premature baby if they induce right at 38 weeks which happens often

I’m 100% positive when I conceived #3, #4 and #5. My understanding is that right on ovulation produces boys. All these three were conceived right on ovulation. My first two were girls, but I’m not sure when they were conceived. #3 and #4 are boys and #5 is a girl. Positions are also meant to make a difference. Everything says #5 should have been a boy but she is very much girl 😉

I’m not keen on the ‘as long as it’s healthy’ phrase either. Even if they weren’t healthy, I’d love them to bits. I have a child with major health issues and it hasn’t made any difference to how dear she is to me. I love her unconditionally and have been there to provide her with the support and treatments she needs. If I’d known what was to come, I’d have had her anyway. So a child that is born blind, deaf, etc isn’t ‘healthy’ and ‘perfect’. They might come with some extra challenges but they are worth it and the experience of parenting these children is so enriching to our own lives. That said, I’ve always felt that I could cope fine with a child with a physical disability (and have) but I’m not sure how well I would manage a child with a mental disbility. That seems so much more challenging to me. I’m grateful that God in his wisdom has seen fit not to challenge me with that one.

Interesting…my three boys…

two conceived before ovulation around day 8

one conceived after around day 11

my cycles are short no doubt! Don’t think this worked for me.
