I listened to The Gun Slinger years and years ago when I was doing data entry and needed something to keep my mind from turning to mush. The awesome thing about that was that I listened to the first 3 books and they were all read by Stephen King!
I think then I waited for the 4th to come out and it seemed like forever and I forgot about it until I was helping my cousin move and he had the 4th book!
So I re-read the first 3 and got the 4th from the library.
Then King had that accident and my mind was screaming - no you canāt die until you finish the story!
Well apparently it freaked him too because he ended up writing the remaing 3 all at once. He even went back and revised the first 4.
Well I got to probably within 100 pages of the end of āthe endā and I had a death in the family - so I put it down and havenāt picked it up yet. That was like 6 months ago.
I feel like I have to be ready to finish it. So I wait.
Man, I read the first one and for some reason I just couldnāt get into it!
Iāve talked to SO many people who have the exact same reaction as Dandelion_Wine. So as a SK fan, I ran out and bought the series when he finally finished them.
(I canāt stand to be hanging in the balance- especially with SK stories. I read his Green Mile series as they came out, and the wait between stories drove me CRAZY!!)
Anyhoo, I bought the series and read the first one- and just canāt get into the second one enough to keep at it. Thatās one thing with SK novels, you gotta keep at them, or you loose your place and the story starts to fall apart. (For me, that is.)
So I guess youāve inspired me to read the first one again to see if it gets my creative SK juices flowinā againā¦
Read 'em all and loved every one. Some were hard to get into, but the slow parts always have something to do with the story later on. Wonāt give it away here, but the end of the last book is very interesting. It has provked a wide range of feelings among those who read them all. āKeep reading!
i have read the first, āthe gunslingerā and i am waiting to acquire the rest. stephen king is a writer of great depth. destined to become classical, i think.
Dandelion Wine & I may be related! My first reaction when I heard about Kingās accident was, āIf he dies before he finishes the Dark Tower books, I am going to :whacky: kill him!ā
I loved them. You not only tie together all the previous Dark Tower books, you find the interconnections between his other books! Great readingā¦Enjoy!!
