My sister went the other way as a teenager at Uni.
Mainly because she wanted to belong to a hippy type group in the 1970s. She was also calmed by the chanting. Better than going Goth I suppose.
Nowadays she sees those reasons as silly but given all her adult life has been in Japan and is married to a Japanese her continuing feeling of comfort and familiarity makes sense. She was badly turned off from Catholicism by abusive and unfair treatment she received from mad nuns in late primary school.

I converted from what I like to call “secular Buddhism”. I called myself Buddhist, and I did learn about it, but I think it was more so I didn’t have to call myself a Christian. I became Catholic, well, because of a female friend, I remained Catholic, because it’s true.
