Specifically The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Roche’s path. I’d have a question about one of the quests in Act 2, but not something that can be found in walktroughs online. Basically need to talk to someone about something in there.

I didn’t do Roche’s path, but I did beat the game. Is there any reason you’re not sharing what it is you want to talk about? The game is seven years old, and you may never see anything in Roche’s path. Anyone getting it spoiled for them now has no excuse.

There’s an aspect of the Blood Curse quest that I’d rather not bring up in public for fear of scandal.

It’s a game set in a fictional world and telling a fictional story. What kind of scandal could it possibly cause?

In the Blood Curse quest Geralt has to guide King Henselt to draw a symbol to protect himself. The symbol is a simplified goat skull:

The game refers to that quest as an ‘exorcism’, so perhaps the symbol is meant to represent the source of the threat protected against rather than the source from which protection is asked. But the game skimps on information in this regard, so they’re basically just asking you to draw a goat skull by lighting the dots with a torch until they connect.

Like I said, the Witcher series takes place in a fictional world, and while some aspects of it certainly resemble standard folklore, it ultimately has its own religions, deities, etc. This isn’t actually witchcraft. No one is actually possessed, no exorcism is actually performed, and no Satanic ritual is actually performed. It’s just part of the story.

And honestly, considering the other content in the Witcher series, this seems mild. I’d be more concerned about all the sex and nudity.

One: my issue is: there’s not overall deity in the game. Geralt does have his somewhat charitable moments like commenting and nearly beating up the ‘baron’ for his wife-beating and being an alcoholic… but on the other hand: the dude is a whoremongering mercenary! I get it: that world needs witchers to deal with monsters, and of course, there’s the issue of the genetic alterations… but by all that’s good: Can’t any Order in that game ever be at the very least: chaste, honest, and more upright than most folk? Though, by the sin of Adam, ALL of us, save Mary and Christ, are sinners.

I however, kind of beg to differ to zmystiCat, whenever someone prophesies like that Peller or that diviner kid: It’s like a demon possessed them. Yeah, they’re going to need a WHOLE Decade or lifetime of exorcisms. I stopped playing video games, though when I do play it’s usually stuff like say X Beyond the Frontier or strategy games. I do like RPGS, though I have to argue that maybe certain folks should start thinking about putting some good morals in there.

Well, after some thought:

My worry here is less about Geralt/Henselt per se, but more about whether the game is not asking me, myself, to go through the external gestures of some sort of satanic ritual (invocation of the devil), which would hardly be appropriate to do even without having anything remotely similar to the inward intention associated with that sort of thing.
