a co-worker of mine is also a fellow catholic. From short discussions with him, he seems to be fairly traditional in his faith. He gave me a book to read, it’s called “windswept house” by the afore mentioned author. I read the book jacket and it seems like it might deamonize Rome. I haven’t started it yet though because I wanted to see if anyone had read it. it’s a fictional story, but still, will it plant doubts in my mind, or at least attempt to? I don’t want to read anything that isn’t good catholic reading. the book touts the author as a “close associate of Pope John XXIII”. any thoughts? does anyone know where I can maybe find a good review of this book?
thanks

I have never read anything by malachi Martin. I’m hoping I never succumb to the temptation to do so.

While never having read anything of his, I’ve heard Fr. Malachi Martin on the radio a few times in years past. Usually he was a guest on Art Bell’s show, so that should set off some red flags for you right there. If you believe that the Vatican is full of conspiracies to rule the world and hide “the real truth” about God and Jesus from the masses, you will absolutely love the “non-fiction” of Fr. Martin.

For me his books were fantastic. I’ve read about six of his books, including Windswept House. They were very helpful to me, and spurred me to learn more about the church. They brought me closer to the church. I couldn’t say for sure if they would have the same effect on someone else. Martin was a peritus for Cardinal Bea at Vatican II.

so his heart is probably not in the right place in this book? does he suggest that the church is hiding the real truth? I’ve never heard of him until now, so this is all new to me.

No, I believe his heart was definitely in the right place, his head may have been a problem at times. He loved the Church, He ached for the Church, He felt that there were enemies of the Church within the Church…communists, secularists, masons, etc., who would wish to do the church harm. There are some shocking accusations in Windswept House. Were they true? I have a hard time believing some of it, but there is some rot in the Church, of that I’m sure. There are also heroic figures in Church as well however , and Martin recognized this. This is what I love about him. I loved his heroic characters.

He’s somewhat long winded, and not very skilled at fiction. But the ideas he presents are very worthwhile. His non-fction is far better than Windswept House. I give him a B+.

I appriciate your comments. I will go ahead and read it then. thanks so much. the back cover scared me a little bit and I’m glad he was not a church hater. really, we should know that saten has minions in our church. why would he not try and attack it? even my husband, a staunch protestant, says “the Catholic Church is the oldest Christian church, you know saten has had his wreched claws in it for a long time and wants to tear it apart.” But of course, we know that we win anyway and as long as this author portrays that somewhere in his story, I think I can take it. thanks 🙂

Same here. For some reason I have aways seen him as someone with grudge or a chip on his shoulder.

I don’t know anything about his other writings but The Jesuits was an awesome read. After 11 years of Jesuit learning in high school, college and law school, I thought it said a lot.

As a former classmate said the Jebs were great until they found God one day looking back them in the mirror.

I also read his book THE JESUITS, and found it very informative but disquieting. The book itself was great, though.
So was his book THE KEYS OF THIS BLOOD, about Pope John Paul’s struggle against the behind-the-scenes maneuverers of the New World Order. A long book, but a good read.

I have read “Hostage to the Devil” and “The Keys of this Blood.” They are both excellent books, but I can understand why some people think he is controversial. He was a good man.
