Has anyone read The Screwtape letters by C.S. Lewis?

I have. It was kind of…depressing. I also didn’t like how the devil was annhiliated at the end. I understand that’s Lewis’ belief, though.

On a related note, dose anyone else think it’s funny that Catholic Answers has this article? The article description says:

Devil in the Digital Domain (This Rock: July 2000)
Description: An infernal e-mail reveals what devils may think about sins of the flesh.

But wouldn’t it be the truth to say that letter is taken from The Screwtape Letters? (Which it is!)
 
Love it. And when you are done, try The Snakebite Letters by Peter Kreeft. It is a homage to Lewis. Not quite as good but entertaining nonetheless.
 
Everyone should read Screwtape!!

Another to read, “My Visit to Hell” by Thigpen.
 
One of the best books ever written.

Did you all know that there is a play of the book in Chicago this season? I hope to go.
 
With Screwtape Letters, CS Lewis succeeds on many levels, most notably his treatment of temptation and justification of sin. Very illuminating. Very insightful. And scary.

Besides being a good story of slim, readable length, it can be a pretty good help in conscience examination.
 
We had to read it in HS. Haven’t read the entire book it in a LONG time but have read exerpts of it and used quotes from it.
 
I have it on cd and listened to it a few years ago while traveling on my way to work…it was great. Very deep…like you need a shovel to read it, that’s how deep it is.😃 Deep is good. Not as many modern day deep thinkers or writers like Lewis was, anymore.
 
Diabolical work!!! But that is exactly the point! It is excellent as it does give one insight into how the devil works. He is so smart and tricky! Everyone should read this book!
 
As many have said, it is an insightful book and an easy read.

In the edition that I have, Mr. Lewis talks about what he went through as he wrote. He said it was actually very difficult and troubling because he had to turn good into evil and evil into good.

In addition to this book, I would also recommend another Lewis book, The Great Divorce.
 
It gives a lot of insight into how the devil tempts us, so it’s helpful in spiritual warfare.
