Has anyone used cheaptickets.com?

I’m making arrangements to go to Rome for Pentecost w/ 2 of my kids. Cheaptickets.com has good fares. Has anyone used them? Did it work out OK?

My 15 yr old dd will be staying an extra week and coming home on her own. Cheaptickets.com won’t let me book her w/o an adult. I guess I need to find out the airline regs on that before I book. Has anyone had experience with that? Thanks! —KCT
 
I have never used cheaptickets.com, though we have used internet sites to arrange travel. We mostly get hotels on-line and use the travel sites (such as Travelocity or even the airlines’ websites) to check availability of flights. We have had family trips to Europe four times in the last ten years, including twice to Italy.

I prefer to deal with the big airlines and find that speaking to a living, breathing airline ticket agent is more productive. I don’t want to make a mistake in entering data (booking the wrong flight or for the wrong number of passengers). Besides a ticket agent can answer questions. Several times, I learned of special promotions that I would not have known about on-line even on the airline’s own website. At the very least, call the “800” number for the major airlines–Alitalia, American, or whatever–that fly to Italy to find out what their best prices are…
 
I’ve used several sites in the past, but I use orbitz.com now almost all the time. I’ve looked at cheaptickets.com, but Orbitz and others seem to have better prices and better flights most of the time.

Shop around. Find the lowest price. It doesn’t matter where you buy the ticket, but watch out for strange fees. The internet is great for shopping for a flight. I don’t remember the last time I had to talk to a person to buy a ticket.
 
I’ve usually use Expedia, Travelocity, or Orbitz (even if I don’t like their gay activities) just because a few times cheaptickets has had a lower fare, and after filling out all the info and deciding to get the tickets they say the fare is no longer available, but then I would search the same info again that day or two days later, get the same low fare, get ready to purchase and bam, no longer available. It happened to me several times with different trips (so I am saying that with them I could not count on them being the cheapest because I was never able to purchase it at the cheaper fare). I have never had that problem with anyone else (it is normal for a fare to no longer be available every once in a while if the plane is almost full, you are flying in a busy time etc.)
Basically I am just saying don’t count on being able to take the flight at that price until you have actually paid for it. I know people that have had positive experiences with cheapt but I had that problem (and so did a friend of mine).
Also, sometimes it is cheaper directly with the airline, its happened to me before, plus often they will let you hold the ticket for a day (while you decide)and secure the price. One thing I do is search on the Expedia etc sites and if one of the cheap options is with a specific airline all or most of the way, I call the airline. I’ve gotten better prices and times that way. Will your 15 year old be with an adult that extra week? You might be able to give that adults name and have like a traveling child arrangement (where there are designated adults on each side of the trip, I’m not sure how it works internationally though).

I’ve used cheaptickets often. When doing comparision on line travel shopping, they’ve always been the least expensive.
I have never had a problem with them from purchase to the end of flight.

This is exactly what happened to me this afternoon. I re-tried twice, and it popped up no longer available. So, I went to Travelocity and booked on the same flights for $50 less! —KCT (who just booked Baltimore to London to Rome to Baltimore for $650)

I’m excited you understood what I was saying. After I posted I reread it and it even confused me.
Lol, believe me, that little problem with cheaptickets did not go over well for us as college students on a budget trying to book a flight for Spring Break, excited we thought were going to save a couple bucks…

I’m SO grateful you posted. Had you not, I would have been really discouraged. I’m glad I was prepared 🙂

I had forgotten to check some of the other sites under ‘multi city’, which is the deal we got. I don’t understand how flying in and out of more cities is more economical, but I’m glad it is. Dd is so thrilled to be going back to London and Rome. —KCT
