what do you think šŸ™‚

yesterday I was thinking how awesome it is that God never had a beginning, and will never have an end. That He is the one who IS. This is so difficult to grasp because we’re used to everything having at least a beginning. Creation has a beginning…it’s amazing that God ALWAYS existed before Creation. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

It’s so silly and childish but sometimes I start wondering, where did He come from? and it’s impossible for me to understand that He didn’t ā€œcome fromā€ anywhere, He always was. (and is, and will be.)

Why did He create us?

I think when we love God and receive His love, we imitate the relationship of the Holy Trinity… we are doing for what we were created. He gives Himself to us, and we give ourselves to Him in return.

thoughts?

We humans have a very hard time grasping ideas like ā€œeternalā€ and ā€œinfiniteā€. What do they mean? The Universe is unbelievably large, but God is even bigger, He is infinite. God is eternal, which means He existed before all else, and had no beginning. We deal every moment of our lives with beginnings and endings, and cannot fathom what ā€œforeverā€ really is.

You can get into some really deep theological, philosophical and metaphysical discussions on this. For me, I think of God as encompassing everything that is, so that everything is contained within God, and God is in everything. God always exists, so that He exists in this moment of time and every moment of time in the past and in the future. A million of our years is like a millisecond to Him.

That is a comforting thought to me, because God is then always near, where ever and when ever I am.

And those are not silly or childish questions at all. They are thoughts of great and holy thinkers. They indicate that you are gaining a deeper relationship with and understanding of the One who made us all.

I am glad you brought this up.
My biggest question as a child was, ā€œWhat did God do in the eternity before he created anything?ā€

Did he just sit a plan on what he was going to do? Did he reflect on what was to come? But for eternity in the past?

It’s interesting that bring up this question, sister, because I was just reading about ā€œthe historyā€ of this question the other night: it seems our earliest Fathers had to contend with this very question in response to the philosophers of the day.

It seems like Frank Sheed tried answering this question to a certain degree in his book ā€œTheology for Beginners,ā€ though I can’t recall the answer since it’s been forever since I read that book!

What God did before the universe was created though is easy to answer: He loved!

Contemplating a ā€œworldā€ devoid of matter is impossible. I really like the ideas behind the Big Bang Theory, but I’m always left with the question of ā€œwhereā€ this infinitesimely small ā€œpointā€ in time and space happened to be which exploded all at once. I mean, if there is no matter then there is no time, so, in the grand scheme of things, one ā€œmomentā€ things aren’t and then they are. Just like…BAM! Emeril Lagasse style! 😃
