So I was deep in study today (algebra) while concentrating it had occurred to me.
The question: Has any Pope, Saint, ect. ect. ever predicted the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.
The reason I ask this is, I’ve read online accounts of protestant churches announcing when the 2nd coming will be. From the founder of the 7nth day Adventist to Chuck Smith.
A major question would also be for protestants of fundamentalist churches, if your pastor predicted when the 2nd coming would be and was wrong, doesn’t that make the church you attend a non-authentic version of Christianity?
Cheers!

I am pretty sure the Catholic Church forbids such predictions. While it’s not forbidden to talk about “signs of the end times” (these are detailed in the scriptures, anyway) I once heard in a homily that “setting a date” so to speak would be contrary to Catholic teaching.

I imagine if you found an instance where someone in the Catholic Church had predicted an actual time for this to occur, it would not have been divinely inspired, since the Church has already stated that this is not to be done, and the Holy Spirit doesn’t contradict itself.

Short answer - NO. Even Jesus told the apostles no one will know the time or the day (even himself) only his father in heaven.

Of course. The Church has always taught there would be a second coming. Even Christ told us that. But Christ, and the Church after him, told us only the Father knows the time. So the Church doesn’t talk about the second coming like other denominations. 🤷

Matt 24:36:
But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son,* but the Father alone.
Simple answer, no, because as the Bible indicates, and as Church teaching states, no one knows or will know, until the day actually arrives.

Actually, Catholics don’t care about when the Second Coming gets here. The Church has never predicted the date, she just teaches us to live each day as it is our last!

No specific dates are given but the messages from Garabandal, Bayside, John Leary and Maria Divine Mercy to name a few certainly give you information so you can be prepared and know what signs to look for - better to be prepared and not have to use your preparations than to be caught unprepared - I certainly want to make sure I have “oil for my lamp” if needed. God bless!!

I say this becuase, I’ve been to a calvary chapel, and I’ve also read countless times online about how many of these fundementalist church leaders predict a date when the second comming is goign to take place. But yet after multiple times of being wrong, the followers of these denominations see no error in their churches teachings or or pastors; and continue to call the Catholic church a false church. Thus; giving no consideration for the false predictions of their own assembly.

Catholics don’t predict the date of the Second Coming. We pray for it. And pray to be prepared. (Live everyday as if it’s your last, as my parents always taught me.)
That is why Christians pray, above all in the Eucharist, to hasten Christ’s return by saying to him: Marana tha! “Our Lord, come!”

The biggest issue is, Paul condemned division [Gal 5:19-21]. There is no time limit to that condemnation. It was as true in Paul’s day, as it is in every century going forward. Look how many “Christians” have ignored Paul’s warning, and seperated from Peter.
