Has the 'Non-Catholic Religions' forum lost its purpose?

No doubt you see it in that manner.

I was rather impressed when they told me the story. The were simply expressing that they were not and would not be constrained to understanding their faith based on only the CCC for elucidation. I would call that prudent, given that that their are several hundred if not thousands of very brilliant Catholic theologians and biblical experts out their writing books. I can’t imagine limiting oneself to so narrow a view. And no, they are still a very legitimate congregations. The Sisters of St. Joseph in Kalamazoo Michigan.
Not doubting the sincerely of the Sister(s) who related this story to you; but their perception of it may be a bit colored.

Of course, I’m “presuming” that you weren’t there (otherwise why would you say “I was rather impressed when they told me the story”?) I trust that’s not being “presumptuous”. 🙂

Why not answer my question Spiritmeadow? Can you not answer it? You had to tell everyone here a bishop told a group of sisters something, yet you cannot stand behind what you said as were you there or not? Your ignoring my questions shows how you are not telling the truth. Why do you insist in lying about the Catholic church? You were once a Catholic?
Dear a number of us are not inclined to respond to you until you find your way to apologize for your continuing plagerizing of material and playing it off as your own. We are still waiting.

Frankly, I don’t care what you think about most anything I can think of.

It is deeply sad that so many Catholics here like to categorize their fellow Catholics as either real or not, or faithful or not. I have not seen this from other denominations and I am sad to see people so divide against their own fellow Catholics.
Hmmm … I’m not really sure where to begin responding to that. Just as well, perhaps, since I don’t really have time to properly respond to it right now.

I don’t suppose just saying “Boy that’s silly” would do much good? 😉

Not at all as a Non-Catholic AND a non-Judeo Christian on top of that its in fact rather useful to equally question various aspects of religion and have a bit of a say in the debate.

The tone of your posts is increasingly antagonistic. I am not sure why. I have no problem with what you believe.
But you treat it as if it is merely personal belief, rather than the teaching or position of the Church.
So your opinion is that a number of sisters of a reputable convent are “less than faithful?” Well that comes as no suprise, since I’ve seen many a religious congregation bashed her by the “right” kind of Catholics. In any case, I was not a Protestant at the time, but a RC and in discernment for that particular house. I was actually accepted into the Dominican order before I realized that I was not called to this particular service within the Church.
To relate the pronouncement of a Bishop that way is no sign of faithfulness. And once again it’s not just “here.” The Catholics in this forum did not make the determination that a review of the orders in the US (I do hope they make a side trip to Canada, too) was needed. The Curia did.

You won’t see it from a majority of the denominations, and certainly not the liberal / revisionist ones, simply because there is neither a standard, nor an authority to apply the standard, when it comes to determining that to which one is called to be faithful. And no one doubts that they are for real. But they were clearly not exhibiting faithfulness.
As you point out, the small truly faithful remnant of the RCC also has no great liking for many of not most of the Catholic schools of higher education nor to the many brilliant scholars it produces. All wrong headed and thinking as I understand it.

Perhaps some day you will be lucky enough to have the purity you desire.
Oh, it’s not nearly as small as you might think. On the other hand, Catholics who are no doubt more to your liking form a fraction of a percent of Catholics in North America. Voice of the (un)Faithful once tried to get a big number of signatures on a petition. They got 10% of their goal, and extended the campaign for a further year. In the end, they got less than a hundredth of a percent of Catholics to sign up, and a small fraction of even their goal. In fact, recently, they came close to going bankrupt.

Oh, and before you suggest the problems with that outfit are my mere personal opinions, you might consider that various Diocesan Bishops have stated that to join the outfit in their Sees, where the cells are most disobediant, will result in excommunication.

Brilliant scholars, fine. Authoritative teachers, not. Many have the Mandatum, and can be relied upon. The ones who scorn it, not so much. And in the end, there’s not much worry. The Philosophy departments are very, very solid.
Your slams at Protestants at not having the intelligence to judge the legitimacy of RC religious orders is stunning. But as I said, your entire post is uncharitable and rude.

I personally don’t care if you believe what I said of course. Why would I? Actually, disbelief on the part of some here is more insurance that one is indeed still sane.

Blessings to you as well.
What is stunned is judging Catholic orders by Protestant standards. Some Catholics will roll over for that. This one won’t.

Blessings,

Gerry

But you treat it as if it is merely personal belief, rather than the teaching or position of the Church.
It does not matter where it came from… It is still your personal choice to believe everything that your church tries to feed you or not. It is you personal choice and your personal belief. The more if you choose not to follow along on even one iota…

But it is not MERELY my personal choice. It is not MERELY my personal belief. And to treat it as if it is, is an affront to our Holy Mother the Church. And it would be truth if I (or anyone else) chose to believe all, none, or part of it.

And the tone of “tries to feed you” is not wholesome. I hope you mean “teaches for your benefit and acceptance” and wish you had actually said so.

Blessings,

Gerry

The non-Catholic Religions forums is an area where individuals of all faiths (or lack thereof) can come to discuss religion. A Methodist is as free to discuss religious philosophy with a Muslim as a Catholic is.

An agnostic can post their beliefs and have questions asked of him/her without fear of censorship merely for being of a different religion than Catholic… same with all other Faiths.

I have always believed that I would never make every religion happy no matter how this forum was moderated. I have therefore moderated from a position of charity, intellectual honor, and freedom of religion.

This forum has not lost it’s purpose. In fact, the very fact that this thread exists shows that this forum is as important as ever.

With that said. I believe the discussion has run it’s course. I thought it was appropriate for people to see a spectrum of opinions from many different religions. And I encourage anyone who does not like it here, to please refrain from visiting and posting - you just make it hard for good dialog to occur.

Thanks for your participation, and as ever-

God bless

Rachel
