Popes Victor I (189 to 199), Miltiades (310/311 to 314), and Gelasius I (492 to 496) were all from the Roman territories in noth Africa, but it is unknown if they were black (negroid) as we use that term today, or if they were closer in ethnicity to other near eastern or mediterranean peoples who lived in that area at that time.

More likely Arabs.

There is also speculation that Augustine may have been black. Even though he is no a Pope.

God bless,

Probably not Arabs per se, as I think the spread of Arab culture did not occur before the rise of Islam, but a related semitic people, possibly yes. Or I could be wrong.

At that time North Africa was populated by Romans. Even today I don’t think there are many blacks north of the Sahara.

As far as I know, we haven’t yet had a black African pope,
but I’ll nominate one right now: Cardinal Arinze !!

North Africa in the Times of the Roman Empire according to historical accounts was populated by people of the Caucasian Race. But it is not important if there were or not Black Popes. What matters now is that if His Eminence The Cardinal of Ghana is Elected Pope we should see this as sign of The Almighty as it does not move a leaf in the Universe without The Lord’s consent.

We will pray for Him to receive Wisdom from Above, to be a Humble Servant of Christ and to fight the Good Battle in the Name of the Lord, for Justice and Peace for this World.

Love Thy God with all your heart and soul and your neighbor as you love Thee…

Our neighbor is the Human Race,
