Has this ever happened to you while waiting for confession?

Considering the thread I started this evening, people will say I attract trouble, but here goes! When I was a teen I used to be an altar boy for my parish. The confessional used by the pastor was right next door to the sacristy, with confessions immediately before both the Saturday morning and the Saturday evening Masses. My Pastor didn’t always close the door to either the confessional or the sacristy, so it wasn’t uncommon to be able to hear something of his side of the conversation! I was never able to recognise the penitent’s voice or tell what they were saying so in that respect I was never able to connect a sin with a person, but even so it wasn’t very good practice!

I’ve been in a similar situation a couple times because my college “parish” had really close, quiet quarters both inside and outside the chapel; I just do my best to tune out what’s being said out of respect for the penitant.

Though the LAST time I went to confession, I got directed to a room where there was already a confession taking place! EEP! Thankfully I noticed and made a 180 before I got too far into the room. The seminarian who directed me there quickly became a penitant himself with how many "I am SO SORRY"s I heard! 😃
