My 8-year-old son mentioned to me how he “hated” someone. I said that we do not hate people, but we can sometimes dislike/disapprove of their actions. Then he asked me, “Well, can’t we hate the Devil?” The question gave me pause. I wanted to say “yes,” but then I recalled the Gospel: “But I say to you, love your enemies, and do good to those who hurt you.” Satan is certainly referred to as “the Enemy” in Christian writings.

So, is it okay to “hate the Devil?”

I don’t know, but whatever you do Love God more than that! MAny times more than that

Satan and the fallen angels have good insofar as they are creatures of God, endowed with intelligence, power, and free will. That God created all the angels good leads us to reflect upon God’s goodness. Of course we do not like that the fallen angels have chosen malice over charity.
