Hating my job

Hi,
I have been trying to ignore this feeling I am having lately. But now I can’t ignore it. I am really starting to hate my job. I either need the grace to find a new job, or endure the one I have now until I can get an education or training for a better job. I have been at my job for almost exactly a year now, and in a month or two, I will be eligible for training and education in different fields by my employer company. Part of me wants to stick with my job, so I can get some IT or computer science training. Another part of me wants to find something more interesting and go back to college to study Psychology and do something in the mental health field. I don’t really know what God wants me to do. So please pray that God helps me know what He wants me to do in regards to sticking with my current job or seeking a new one, and please pray that I discern what He wants me to do.

Prayer for the Help of the Holy Spirit

O God, send forth your Holy Spirit into my heart that I may perceive, into my mind that I may remember, and into my soul that I may meditate. Inspire me to speak with piety, holiness, tenderness, and mercy. Teach, guide, and direct my thoughts and senses from beginning to end. May your grace ever help and correct me, and may I be strengthened now with wisdom from on high, for the sake of your infinite mercy. Amen.

Until you find a better job, more to your liking, skills, etc. I pray that God grants you patience, humility, and charity towards others. Whatever work you do, I pray also that you do your best.

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular Writer for God, and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. I have a BA in psychology. The professors said that most people who study psychology are looking for answers in their own lives. Those four years of college were on scholarships and grants, so it was almost entirely a free ride.

I went back to college to get another degree in chemistry, to have what was, for me, a more useful academic basis for employment.

I say all this to help you sort out the reasons for wanting to study psychology in the first place. I suppose these days, there may be more options than in my day for preparing for a career with a bachelor’s degree. So, I advise looking way ahead about what career options you want. Coincidentally, I, too, got an advanced degree in the IT field, but I was more valuable as a chemistry major to my employer. As a worker in my specialized field, I was harder to replace, so my employer didn’t want me to go into its IT department. Hard reality, IT workers were considered “a dime a dozen” whereas as a chemistry technician, my type was harder to find even in a large city environment. Well, there was also an abundant supply of chemistry and chemical engineering grads, too. I had an edge because of previous experience.

If any of this is any help, my success on the chem tech job was a result of applying science and excluding emotion, bias, and hunches from my analytical work.
