Haunting - Catholic / Bible

I’ve been reading the bible for the past couple months. (Yes it is taking me a really long time.)

Anyway I’ve come accross nothing, so far, that indicates places being haunted by demons or spirits. Only people. Am I correct?

I wonder why you never hear of Jesus casting demons out of a place? Unless I missed something.

I only ask because we dealt with a horrible haunting at one point and we were never 100% sure why. 75% maybe. So I’ve been trying to figure out where we went wrong. No, I am not dwelling on it it’s just that when I think of something I check into it. I thought the bible might hold some answers but so far all I am really getting out of it is that we as people , or the people who owned the house before me, must’ve done something to attract them.
 
St. Paul’s passage comes to mind from Ephesians, that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities of the air. These fallen angels and powers can occupy spaces or infect spaces I would assume because they are creatures though incorporeal and exist in the created realm. I hope this helps.

It helps a little but do you know of any passage that addresses the whole idea of a place being occupied by demons or angels? Wait I suppose that would be heaven and hell? Hey maybe I live in hell? No, I am just kidding.
 
The Book of Tobit has the story of the demon living in the bedchamber to kill any men, but I do not think that that is what you are looking for.

If I understand your question, it is if fallen angels can, instead of possessing or opressing a person, can act in an area of influence in a physical setting. I would say so. I have been in places that I felt were evil (not scary, as if I were going to get mugged, but full of evil). Why would a devil do this? Perhaps it is another way to get someone to turn from God. Perhaps they are oppressing/possessing someone there and the presense is palpable. I do not know. In reality, we understand that devils are “prowling about the world, seeking the ruin of souls.” That said, I know of no place where Jesus exorcised a devil from a place. The Church does have home blessings and other prayers that can be used to remove evil or invoke God’s blessings in an area.

As far as your haunting, I would not worry about it. If you are not in the house anymore, just pray for all of those who come in contact with it. I hope that this helps

But what about the situation we were in? We moved into a home that was haunted and we did the blessing stuff which helped alot. (We still live there and little things happen now and then but NOTHING like before.) It’s almost as if they were suppressing / oppressing the house and we moved into it? Maybe they possessed the house?

I just find it interesting that you don’t really hear of that in the bible.

I’ve thought about moving out, but I don’t know if I could in good conscience do that to someone else. What about the poor souls who buy it?
 
I misuderstood. I thought you were no longer in the haunted situation. I would advise you to talk to your parish priest. Have your home blessed.

There is biblical support for the belief that objects retain a spiritual imprint of persons they have contacted. That is how the relics of saints work. I’m not sure if the anti-relics of evil persons would attract evil, though.

The earlier poster’s mention of the Book of Tobit should be considered a bit more closely. The story of the maiden resembles actual cases of demonic affliction that I’ve witnessed. The demonic intention seemed to be the destruction the family and the sabotage of courtship. Sexual impurity is a very dangerous invitation to trouble.

Put those 2 items together, and I’d guess that hiding the remains of an aborted child would be a very effective way to “curse” a house. Any human remains or objects used in occult rituals would be an attractant, if combined with an opportune victim.
 
It doesn’t specifically address the question of demons, but 2 Chronicles 29 may have some relevance.

The Hebrew people under King Ahaz had been sacrificing to false gods (and to King Ahaz himself) and had desecrated the Temple. The people suffered greatly as a result. After the death of Ahaz, his son Hezekiah ordered that the house of the Lord be cleansed by the priests, that sacrifices be offered to the one true God, and that the people reconsecrate themselves to the Lord.

It may be a similar situation — a place becomes “unclean” when sacrilegious acts are performed there. I don’t know whether previous inhabitants of your house were involved in occult activities, but it’s a possibility.

Why not have your house blessed, and then enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus there?

We did that.

It wasn’t bothering us for awhile but now in the past couple weeks it is starting up again. But just as I am writing this I just had an ‘ah-ha’ moment. I think I know why it is starting up again.

I used to journal about the activity so that I could try to find triggers for it or something. I noticed that the activity was worse when this certain friend came over to visit. After her visit we would end up getting attacked for 2 days. I stopped talking to her and just backed away.

I questioned her about some things and it turns out that she refuses to believe in God, and that she as learning to practice Wicca. Maybe that is why it was so bad?

Anyway I haven’t heard from her in months and everythings been great. However, she’s called me like 3 times in the past couple weeks. I’ve not called her back. Now we are getting attacked again. Coincidence?

We did. It was blessed and we enthroned it to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and also Mary. Thank you for the idea though.
 
Fr. Gabrielle Amorth covers this topic quite extensively in his books An Exorcist Tells His Story and More Stories
