Have you ever felt a calling to the Priesthood?

Dear Friends,

Has anyone ever felt they had a call to the Eastern Catholic Church as a Priest or Religious?

What were the circumstances when you felt that? Did you think of acting on testing your vocation? What happened in the end?

And did that experience leave you with something “you wish you did?” Did it perhaps lead you into a lay ministry of some sort?

Before I was married, I once wanted to be a monk because I felt soooo disillusioned with the world, and felt the only way I could effect any goodness was through constant prayer. I was rather a pessimist during that portion of my life, and it was admittedly a tough time.

Long talks with my spiritual Father helped me overcome my pessimism and I eventually saw more goodness in the world, simultaneously realizing that my motive for becoming a monk was not entirely realistic.

I recall my Filipina wife told me a long time ago that EVERY Filipino goes through the stage of wanting to become a priest because every Filipina mother inspires such a calling.😃

Not if you’re an only son like myself. We’re also a culture where the dad wants the son to carry the family name to the next generation. This wasn’t a problem in the past when bigger families were the norm. Had my brother not die of leukemia, who knows, maybe I would have become an RC priest.
