Wondering if the ladies here go without make up during Lent?
I don’t wear much ,maybe lipstick, mascara and today for Ash Wednesday went without…thinking, well why not for all of Lent. I’ve got plenty of oil on hand 🤔 🧐

That would be scary. For the past six years I have done a strict fast of no dairy or meat for all of Lent. Kind of looking forward to it. Have found it very beneficial spiritually, physically and it makes Easter Sunday that much more special.

I barely wear any makeup as it is, and have been told I look like I don’t wear it anyway, so I probably could give it up, but I don’t really see any purpose. It’s not as if it’s any kind of sacrifice.

Here we go again with the possibilities of “sacrifice” in the imitation of Christ.

Chocolate, coffee, alcohol, and now make up, none of which compare to his sacrifice.

Isaiah 58:6-12 puts it all in perspective.

The best sacrificial aspects of fasting or abstinence is better when put into action to benefit others than to internalize for our own benefit.

In solidarity with my makeup-free sisters in Christ, I will give up shaving for Lent!

I go makeup free every year during Lent. I always figure the ashes I receive on Ash Wednesday are good enough for me.

I hadn’t really thought about offering up not wearing make up till a few years ago when a very devout lady from my parish did,she is lovely ,very fashionable in a good way and the change was remarkable…a real act of humility.Quite different to offering up not having coffee etc.
As Lily said the Ashes are good enough. I have my ashes and I have my scapular.
God bless

I had thought about it carefully 😉
Are you stopping shaving too Milt 😁

No way. My eyes aren’t the same shape. I use makeup to balance them out. It’s not that I’m afraid to ever go out without makeup - in fact I just did so all day last Saturday - but I prefer to appear more symmetrical when interacting with others. I know from experience that the difference in the shapes of my eyes is a major distraction to some.

Yes, me too. I wore makeup in high school, 20s - I stopped in my 30s I think. To be honest I think most of us women look a lot better or about the same without it. A lot of women think make up is doing them favors it is in fact not doing…more than one man has told me that. You might be surprised at how men feel about make up - or quite a few of them anyway. Ditto cosmetic surgery, botox, etc. Sometimes the cure is worse than the imperfection.

Mama once told me that if I wore makeup, I’d cause a car crash. I thought she was kidding. One day, I went to the corner store wearing makeup. I got to the corner and was ready to cross the street when I heard and saw Crash Crash Crash.

I just knew it was my wearing makeup that’d done it.😊

That’s not an emoji - that’s me without makeup. Apparently I’m having a fantastic day 😀

The sad thing about make up is the young don’t need it and the old don’t look good in it. Nobody wins. I am not criticizing light use of good make up (this is no place to skimp on quality) - also I understand that if one’s complexion is bad you may want to use make up (I did for acne when a teenager) but I still think making sure you have the best skin you can have is your best bet. Your features are your features. Sleep more and drink more water. Stay out of the sun. Use sun block liberally, always. Hats, shade. Take care of your skin. Once my acne went away I stopped with the skin base makeup. If I miss anything it is my brown eye shadow. I would have surgery before resorting to makeup these days - though I have definitely ruled out botox.
