Have you ever put up a Hummingbird feeder?
It is amazing to see all these birds hanging out and drinking at my window all day long!!

There are no hummingbirds where I live. 😦

We used to have a birdseed feeder, and a suet feeder for the birds that stuck around for winter, but all that went away when bird flu became an issue. I never got around to putting them back up after the prohibition was lifted.

I haven’t, but my mom and sister used to. My mom doesn’t anymore because she passed away, and my sis stopped because she ended up having too may coming around and it got to where she couldn’t afford it or have the time to constantly refill the feeders. She had 5 or 6 going at one time.😲

I did once many years ago, though I do have a bird bath. A lady who used to live behind me, used to have a hanging bird feeder off our mutual boundary fence, and it was visited daily by a variety of birds every afternoon in particular.

Well, my folks have started putting seed outside for the birds. They get a lot of sparrows and the occasional Cardinal. However, it seems that several Mourning Doves have claimed the area now. They’re getting quite plump and are beginning to resemble Grouse.

We tried the hummingbird feeder one time. I don’t think we got any because hummingbirds are pretty sparse in our colder part of the country. Seems to work better in places like Southern California.

Regarding bird feeders, they generally turn into squirrel feeders where I live. Which I wouldn’t mind as I like squirrels and think they are cute, but based on their chubbiness they find quite enough to eat around town and in the trees full of acorns, mulberries, crabapples etc without my making a restaurant for them.

Also, if you live near any woods, bird feeders can attract bears, which creates a risk for the residents and the bear.

I used to put out a hummingbird feeder, but I plant a flower garden that they are attracted to. The garden itself surrounds a pole that used to be an old satellite dish, that is now covered with honeysuckle.

I use the bird feeder in the winter months filled with black sunflower seeds. The birds, and squirrels love it too.

Yes, we do every year. This is the time to make sure that you have plenty of nectar for them to store up extra energy for their long migration further south for the approaching winter. We live in North Central Florida. I was going to post some pictures of our hummingbirds but I am too new to the forum.

I keep a feeder out year round. We have Anna’s Hummingbirds which make their permanent home in Southern California instead of migrating. There are also times during the year when we are visited by additional migrating hummingbirds, and then I have to refill the feeder every day. I actually put out the feeder in the first place because I was inspired by the bird thread here on CAF.

I have a hummingbird/bird garden where I have lots of plants which birds find useful as well as three hummingbird feeders and a thistle feeder for the goldfinches. Sometimes I put a little seed in one of my dove-proof feeders but they can be a little too active sometimes. I’ll also put out orange halves. Verdins like them. Here’s a Verdin drinking from a dripper at my water feature. It attracts a lot of birds. Currently my backyard bird list is at 117 species.

Here’s a hummer in my backyard. I believe this one is a female Black-chinned Hummingbird.
