Have you ever went on an extended trip abroad or domestically and taken too much?

It’s hard not to want to take this, that, and the other thing along with you on a trip, but it seems there are numerous advantages to going very light?

Thoughts on this? Experiences?

At one point in my career, I worked for a Japanese based company. I made 25 trips to Japan. I learned to constrain things to one suitcase and one carry on. Simplifies many things. Customs, transportation, going from place to place, time required to pack/unpack, etc.

Travelling to warmer countries (India and Africa) I tried not to take very much ,usually nice light cotton clothing I could roll up and that wouldn’t crease. Also silk was very good and light. When I was in those countries it was fun to go to local markets to a tailor with usually a foot pedal Singer sewing machine, select a bolt of material , be measured and have something stitched up very quickly.Or wear what the locals were wearing, purchasing clothing ready made.

I used to be the overpacking queen. Now, I am all about minimalism in what I carry (except for cosmetics and yarn)
