My uncle and 2 aunts were religious. All From my mother’s family. They were a tremendous influence on me growing up. What a blessing it was to have a priest in the family. In made all the sacraments more special because my uncle was there. Visiting convents was also special. The joy was so real you could feel it!

One of my uncles is a Cistercian monk, and two of my great-aunts were nuns.

None in my Catholic family.
My Protestant husband had a great-aunt who was a Sister of St. Joseph. Let’s just say, without getting into details, her convent career was a bit checkered. But when she died, she must have been still a member, as she is buried as Sister so-and-so.

LOL! I’ll bet that would make a good story! Generally, a professed Sister cannot just be ‘shown the door’ unless she has done something really bad or committed a mortal sin(s) without repentance.

Something rather shocking occurred and she was sent home for a bit. This was in the early 1900s so even worse than it would be today.

Sometimes people-even Sisters-commit sins or make mistakes-without full knowledge of their action. My mother, a good woman, was beaten from the time she was able to walk until she was able to run away, for non-transgressions. She was just a handy little whipping post. So maybe the Aunt was not so very bad but judged to be bad by others. Something that happens every day even now, by others. Pray for your aunt…I will. P. S. My mom came up in the early part of the 1900’s too. I miss her to this day.

Yes, my husband’s great-aunt is on my prayer list along with the whole rest of our family trees. This sister was just on my mind because we are cleaning out the in-laws house (my husband and his parents and most of the rest of their family are all deceased now) and his brother and sister-in-law decided to give me the family pictures in hopes I can put them on Ancestry since my husband had a paid account and built a big tree. One of them was a picture of this sister in her full old timey habit and my brother-in-law was reminiscing about the family stories he heard about her. I’m thinking what happened might not have even been her fault but as she and everyone else involved is long dead we will never know.

Two of my uncles, one from each side of the family were priests.I had a great aunt who was a nun.

My Maternal Great Aunt, to me, was a Sister of St. Joseph. She was a delightful woman. Sr. Domitilla. Her Aunt was, also, a Sister of St. Joseph. Named Domitilla. Of course, first one deceased before the second could take the name. Their first names were both Helen before taking the veil.
I was going to go into the convent. Regret not having tried. I feel, if led to a religious life, try before getting attracted to the world.
One will regret, not having tried.
God bless

One of my dad’s cousins was vicar general of the Gary diocese, and another second cousin is a nun.

My ex-girlfriend broke up with me to go into a religious community and is now a sister. I asked our associate pastor if that qualified me for a plenary indulgence.

No. My father’s eldest sister considered it, but didn’t.

Yes, several. Perhaps you’ve heard of one of them. John Carroll, SJ. He went on to be the first Bishop and Archbishop of Baltimore.

None of my relatives living or deceased were priests or nuns to the best of my knowledge.

But my best friend in high school’s aunt was a Sister of Mercy- and had a rather notorious reputation as a strict disciplinarian. A lot of my friends that went to Catholic school (I went to public school) had her and complained.

But I met the woman at my friend’s family picnic, and she was nice to her nephews and her nieces and was nice to me. Of course, none of us were her students either. The brutality was just a educational device they taught in 1912 or whenever she received her training.

My great aunt, my grandmother’s sister, is a nun. Sweet lady who we love.

Just found and this past weekend that my Grandfather’s two uncles were Priest, and one was martyred in the Mexican uprising against the church in the 1920’s.

My mother never told me growing up about this for 46 years till I told her I became Catholic again.

My great grandmother’s sister. I inherited her big brown olive stones rosary.

My dad’s youngest sister was a health worker in a mission in China.
