It is a stop motion clay movie. It is about an Austrailian girl, Mary, who lives with her Alcoholic mother. She decides to make a penpal with a 40 year old man in America, Max, to gain insight into how Americans live.
She is a bright girl who determines that Max has Asperger’s syndrome. She goes as far to publish a book on her findings, including that of Max, and is aspiring to pursue a career as a psychologist.
When she tells Max that she is a budding psychologist he is infuriated and, removes the letter “M” from his typewriter.
Mary, now heartbroken, orders that all her books get pulped before they leave the publishing house.
Later, when Mary is older and married with children, she flies to the US to meet Max. She discovers that he had just died, his eyes fixed on Mary’s letters sticky-taped to the ceiling, and a smile on his counternance.
It is a story of people being nice to each other, even if they communicate only through writing. There is always someone ought there who would like to be your friend.
I haven’t seen the movie, but I was wondering if maybe someone else has.
