A New e-Sword Module has been uploaded to :esnips.com/web/CatholicApolegetics

David Gaither has agreed to try to create a top esword module for the nicene and post nicene church fathers many thanks to him, with that and as soon as I finish the below dictionary module for A Catholic Commentary on Scripture I will start on “The Great Corneilius Lapide (Catholic ) Commentary”

I have finished earlier than I thought with many hours devoted to completing the commentary section for:

Yes, thank you Holly3278 👍 I saw that as a result of reading the post above by mijac who has done all that work with / for esword. I have downloaded esword and a number of applications including the Haydock. It is also online at the urls linked in my posts above. However, there is something whacky in the link you provided as I do not see the HBC download there but some sort of MP3 file. This links to esnips shown in **mijac’s **posts do get you there though so all is well.

Which, it should be noted, is in the NAB - New American Bible translation. Many people like it, mostly Americans :o but not all Americans do an not a few place it low on their list. (I’m Canadian for the record). I am familiar with the notes (used to work in a Catholic book store) and they are good introductory level notes. The numerous articles that are above and beyond the commentary notes below the text in individual bible books are also interesting - if American in focus (which to be fair makes sense).

The Navaree series is, in my opinion, superior and is in the RSV a non inclusive language translation (which makes some folks say Yippie and others groan(. Navaree is a whack load more money and if you want something that will fit under your arm as opposed to in the back of a flat bed truck you’d have to go with the single volume NT only in the Navaree.

Also, the RSV-CE has study notes prepared by Scott Hahn and lads but again is sold only in single volumes and paper back at that and the whole bible isn’t available - yet.

The notes in any and all of the above will be a long way from what you’ll find in the more traditional Haydock (which again, will make some folks say Yippie and others groan).

Cornelius a Lapide created a Scripture Commentary so complete and scholarly that it was practically the universal commentary in use by Catholics. Protestant voices have joined in the appreciation. G. H. Goetzius (Leipzig, 1699) wrote an academical dissertation,“Exercitatio theologica de Cornelii a Lapide Commentariis in Sacram Scripturam”, in which he praises the Jesuit author as the most important of Catholic Scriptural writers. An English translation of the complete commentaries was undertaken by the Rev. Thomas W. Moseman, an Anglican clergyman, under the title, “The great Commentary of Cornelius a Lapide” (London, 1876–).

One review said that the notes in that Bible cover a third to a half of every page, in smaller print. But the online version has very few, short notes. Galatians for example has 14 pretty short notes, including 6 chapter summaries. John chapter one has no notes except a one line chapter summary.

If those really are the Haydock notes I think I’ll pass on paying $129 to get one bought and posted here.

I have a protestant study bible (which cost $27 including airmail postage to the UK) with 500,000 cross references, Greek and Hebrew definitions throughout, thousands of sermon and study outlines, a very full index and concordance, and a heck of a lot more. Trouble is, the theology in the notes is screwy. Is there a Catholic Study Bible similar in scope?

Try the CTS New Catholic Bible. It might not be as in-depth as your Protestant bibles but has great footnotes and cross-references. I note you originate from Wales, therefore the CTS Bible will suit you as it is the Jerusalem Bible and the Grail psalms which matches your Lectionary as well as ours in England. See cts-online.org.uk/acatalog/Our_Products_CTS_New_Catholic_Bible_21.html

You will see on their site the features this Bible boasts, but feel free to PM me with you email, and I can send you their PDF brochure which outlines the features much more clearly. This is definately a bible worth buying for the UK Catholic, if not worldwide.

There have been some problems with the “BIBLE AND COMMENTARIES.CHM” Working after download. I have found that the file seems to have been damaged by the upload or download or both. I have zipped the file and re uploadd the file back on the site as a zipped file. You will have to extract the file once downloaded. seems to work fine after that. In any case

I have received an email from James Wiggins about his website which uses an interface program so that you can run e-Sword on the MAC.

How this is possible

I am not a programmer either, but I will give you the basics of how the technology works. This is similar to what Linux uses to run PC programs which is called WINE. (There is nothing alcoholic about this.) WINE is a layer or a program between the operating system and the program. In the case of this program, James Wiggins has made such a program which layers itself between the PC program and the MAC operating system so that the two can work together on a MAC. Give me feed back on this

On the above site is a portion that has been translated of “The Great Cornelius Lapide Commentar” from Latin to English the gospels, Corinthians 1 and 2, Galatians.

What is available is the best Catholic Commentary I have ever come accross, far surpases the Navarre commentary. The Lapide was originally written in Latin in the 1600’s. It would be great to find someone fluent in Latin who might consider translating the rest of the Lapide NT or the whole works into English so as to make the NT or whole commentary available for e-Sword program.
 
looking for some help. Does anyboby know if the Ronald Knox Bible is copyrighted, or if it is free public domain. If it is copyrighted where do we go to get permission to use. I am looking to possibly put the Ronald Knox NT for e-Sword program. It is available in html on line.
