Hmmmm, there doesn’t seem to be a way to post a poll, so I’ll just dive in.
  1. I will never watch football again because of the protests!
  2. I have now started to watch footboall to support those who are kneeling or not coming out for the National Anthem.
  3. I never did watch football and I am not motivated by the protests to to start, even tho I know it would drive Trump crazy if I did.
  4. I will never watch football again because of TBI (brain damage caused by concussions)
etc.

Basically, I am trying to satisfy my curiousity as to whether lots of people are deciding to stop watching football because of the protests or not. I included the TBI question because if I had watched football, that would have made me stop.

🍿

(Hmmmm, does that emoticon indicate that I will be eating popcorn or ducking popcorn?)

“What’s all this about kneeling?” Does that answer your question? I guess I don’t keep up with football and have not bothered to read past the headlines on this topic.

I watched football more when the Dallas Cowboys were winning, as in the Roger Staubach era. Not so much now.

I pretty much only watch when the Pats play. I don’t plan on changing my pattern.

Regarding kneeling, I think it’s disrespectful but it’s their right to do so. I just lose some respect for those players who do so.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one concerned about TBI! I can’t believe boxing is still a thing!

I have to admit, I am ambivalent on the issue of kneeling. I don’t think they have the right to do that if they are “at work,” when they are representing their employer. After all, some people have lost their jobs for what they’ve posted on FB on their own time! But as to what they are doing in and of itself… I’m up in the air.

It’s REALLY hard for me to watch the NFL or the NBA. But I’ll focus my rant on the NFL for now. Because of the way some of them act on the field…I would think that NFL players - are incredibly arrogant; get paid millions of dollars a year but can’t remember where to go for a certain play; have never scored before, and so are VERY excited when they do; are so delicate that they cannot handle having drawn a flag; have the emotional maturity of a 12 year old girl who’s had their phone taken away; think that their political positions have merit; have a low IQ; and finally, are willing to destroy their brains for “love of the game”.

My High School had many teachers who were college football players, and a few who played in the NFL. They were not known as the smartest teachers.

You can insert a poll into any post by clicking the “gear” icon at the far right of the toolbar as you compose a post. A box pops up with various options, one of which is to post a poll. Here is a poll for your thread:
  • I will never watch football again because of the protests!
  • I have now started to watch footboall to support those who are kneeling or not coming out for the National Anthem.
  • I never did watch football and I am not motivated by the protests to to start, even tho I know it would drive Trump crazy if I did.
  • I will never watch football again because of TBI (brain damage caused by concussions)

I’ve never been much for watching football. I’m a little mystified that the whole kneeling during the national anthem has become such a thing. I don’t have to agree with the action to respect that players have a right to exercise free speech (and the NFL has a right to police the matter as they see fit for their players). I can’t see boycotting them over it. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I don’t watch much NFL football because the number of commercials makes it a waste of time, turning a one hour game into a 3 hour game. As far as I can tell the player kneeling at the start is also pretty much of a waste of time. There are more effective ways of making a protest.

  1. I was never a big football fan - who wants to sit outside in cold weather watching muscle men give each other concussions? Baseball is summer fun and less likely to cause brain injuries, and hockey and basketball both get played indoors. Besides, the Browns haven’t had a decent team since I was in high school, back before Art Model made them into the Ravens.
Edited to add, I also couldn’t care less about making Trump crazy.

Joe, thanks for the info on making pollls!

Jim, did pro football games always last that long, or is it a recent thing?

Tis, I just tosse Trumpmin there for fun 😉

I am a big football fan. I will continue to follow my team (Buffalo Bills).
I really don’t do anything to “support” them- I don’t buy fan gear, I don’t go to games because everything is outrageously expensive.

That said, I do not like players bringing their politics into the game. Yes, you have the right to say what you want, but that does not mean that you are free from any consequences.

I work for my local diocese. I had to sign a “code of conduct”.One of the provisions was that I could not speak out against the Church in any public way, good or bad, and refer to myself as an employee, thereby making it look like my opinion is that of the Church, and any organization, IMHO, has that right.

I think this whole controversy is ridiculous. There are so many other things we should be worried about, not a bunch of spoiled brat who make millions of dollars for playing a game.

Don’t like football. Don’t care about the players or their opinions. Hope it all goes away soon. It’s no longer about fun and sportsmanship, it’s just a business that the people of the U.S. keep funding.
Ridiculous. Our $$$ could go elsewhere, and do real good…but no, people pay a ridiculous amount for a ticket. I am proud of the Cowboys owner for putting his foot down though. 'Bout time someone did.

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) – brain damaged caused by getting hit in the head (non-concussive) is likely going to put an end to K-college tackle football soon enough.

There’s just too much to do – hiking, hunting, fishing, reading, attending an actual high school/college football game, etc. to waste a Sunday sitting in front of a television.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knelt with his players after saying he would fire anyone that wouldn’t stand for the National Anthem. What a piece of work. It’s all about $$$,

That’s odd, I saw a press release where he said that he would FIRE them if they didn’t stand.
It must have been fake news.

For a poll, there really should be a “None of the above.” I am ignoring those that kneel, along with those that rant against kneeling. As a Catholic, I am not opposed to kneeling. 🤣 It is incorrect protocol, but not inherently disrespectful. Now if they were to do something like that fist salute, that would tick me off, but then I would still ignore it.

“Don’t feed the trolls” is good advice for a lot of life apart from the internet.

I have never been a huge football fan. I live outside my team’s market (Detroit Lions), and as such, usually don’t get to watch their games on TV. I do listen on SiriusXM Radio, but not every game.

This protest will not affect my habits. To me, enforced patriotism is not true patriotism. Though I will grant that teams have the right to discipline players for conduct they have a problem with. Obviously, many of the teams’ management do NOT object to the protests.
