Continuing the discussion from Importance of Catholic Friends:
We all need a support system.
I think it is more important to have friends in general than specifically Catholic friends. Friends who see past theologies and care about the real person. We are all seeking truth and once we think we have found it, may make us more arrogant.
There is some importance in having Catholic friends, but if they don’t come to your aid in a real crisis, than they aren’t true friends.

I agree. I’d rather have several supportive non-Catholic friends, than several Catholic friends who were not supportive of my faith - for example, encouraging me to break Church rules, or constantly criticizing the way I practice my faith, etc.

well, the Catholicity of those people would be debatable, but still, the point stands- someone doesent have to be Catholic to make you a better Catholic.

Well, sure, good friends are valuable no matter what their creed. But why not both? Good Catholic friends are people I can pray with, people who will pray for me, people who I can talk to about struggles and receive Catholic responses in return, people who will encourage me to go to Confession or Adoration when I need to, people who by their very practice of the faith encourage me and make me aware of the fact that I am not the only one on this faith journey.

Not that we can’t have non-Catholic friends or that non-Catholic friends can’t do some of these things to some degree or that they can’t be really good friends in other ways. But in my experience, it happens more easily with a shared faith. Others may have different experiences.

I feel like I’ve gone under the knife. 🙂
Being surgically dismembered. 🙂

You can’t always choose your friends. Sometimes the right people turn up in your life and sometimes they don’t and they aren’t always who you expect.
