hi all

just a bit of background, im in the process of becoming a catholic, ive been attending rcia and the like for 1 1/2 years and i am hoping to become a catholic at some point this year, or perhaps early next year. the reason it is taking so long is that im from a rather unusual spiritual background which i wont go into detail about here.

but i guess i have fallen in love with the church but i am rather scared of the prospect of consuming the eucharist. there seem to be so many beliefs and practices in the church which revolve around this belief, and in a sense it is the centre of the catholic faith.

but i wanted to know what it was like for people when they had their first communion (i guess converts are perhaps best to know about this as they were older when they first got it) and what the experience is like for people. i guess in my mind i have an idea of what it will be like to receive jesus within myself in the eucharist but im worried that the reality will be quite different, or perhaps im worried that i will be disappointed?

welcome home
the journey takes as long as it takes, but however long, it is a graced and blessed time, even the time of waiting when nothing seems to be happening.

It would be like trying to tell a single person what marriage is like, you can describe subjective emotions and experience but you cannot convey the existential reality of your union with Christ to another person who is not fully there yet. Many saints and mystics have tried so I recommend reading some of what the saints have written. Thomas Aquinas is a good one to start with.
