HBO Celibacy Investigative Report

Did anyone else see this??? (Yesterday, 9pm central) I was mortified. My husband and I watched it because we believe you can not judge something, and defend against it, unless you have seen or read it. Well I still could not sit through the whole program.

Several people in my office saw this program as well. I am new to apologetics and new to the church (November 2000). How do I have rational discussions about what was in the program without just crying about how wrong and stupid HBO is??

The only reasonable thing said in the whole program is that only about 6% of priests have abused children. (This is the same percent as any other clergy group.) But it was followed by an estiemate that nearly EVERY religious has had sexual encounters! They compared celibacy to abuse or s&m. It was awful!

Please, if you saw this, give me information to combat the filth HBO spewed last night!

(By the way, I called and canceled HBO. AND told Direct TV why!)

I wish more Catholics were pro-active like this. If they were… the point would get across to stations like HBO. I know of Catholics who complain about these things, but go on watching and/or keeping HBO…

maybe love their television more than their Faith… I wouldn’t know

I did not see it, but as someone discerning a priestly vocation I can tell you that celibacy is not the sacerdotal scarecrow it once allegedly was. Most seminarians coming into formation nowadays have dated and often had serious relationships. They are not social misfits or developmentally immature; they know what celibacy is and they WANT to be celibate.

People, go to HBO’s website scroll to the bottom of the page, click contact us (its there towards the middle). And write to them. FLOOD THEM WITH EMAIL!!

I just sent HBO an e-mail,.(Not a polite one either!)…Televison is about as anti-Catholic, anti-Jesus Christ as is possible.

Flood HBO with e-mails, its the very, very, least we can do for our Church.

This is so true. Actually, I knew a priest, and friend, tell me once that he just couldn’t understand why his celibacy seemed to bother so many people, it didn’t bother him!!!

He was a great priest, had a heart of gold and truly lived for others. He was the oldest of 17 kids (basic catholic family )and a great example of what a priest should be. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple of years ago, in his early 50’s.
