🤷 So right after posting in this conversation I bought detergent and wasn’t paying attention and accidentally purchased He detergent. So now the question is Can you use He detergent in a regular top loader? LOL I did it works fine.
I decided to buy the He for now, since the machine is new and that detergent is recommended so vehemently by the maker. Anyway, I looked on the bottle and there was nothing about the particular type of machine to use it in.

good heavens don’t get Bama started on the laundry if he does not unload the dishwasher can you imagine what Deb will have to say if lets a load of towels sit in the washer for a couple of days?

Maytag guy was here for the dishwasher so I asked this question about our front loader, he said yes, HE detergent has a different forumula based on the amount of water used. he said start with half the recommended amt. on the bottle for your washer, and add a bit everytime, up to the maximum recommended to get good results. when it says use half or less they mean it. I use All Free. Cheer Free and Tide Free still make me its. Purex free is okay, but not always available.

He also told me something else interesting, to pre-treat with a dab (not a lot) of the same detergent, not another product, for best results.

also, dishwasher can malfunction if you rinse the dishes first, because it and the detergent need oil and gunk to work best. go figure.

about top loaders, he said yes you can use HE but half what you would use of ordinary liquid. He also said virtually all washers mfg. today work best with liquid rather than powder detergent.

So, you are using the He in your washing machine? I used less than suggested, since we have a water softener.

we had a water softener in our last two homes and were told by mfg. of washers and dishwasher to start with 1/4 the recommended amount on the bottle, and work up to where we got best results, but should not be more than half the recommended amount. that was before HE was available, tho, so it would be even less, since it is concentrated. too much leaves a film on the clothes, and can etch the dishes.

Well, I can hope can’t I? Oh, and of course then Deb would get new towels out of the deal! Hmm, I still say he can learn how to do the laundry! Mine used to before we got the front loader and all those buttons just freak him out - and he is a tech guy!

For anyone who has a front loader keep in mind too that it seals tight so when not in use, don’t close it! I say this because I found a funky odor coming from mine once when someone closed it after use and I live in the desert where it is very dry! Now, there are days mine doesn’t get used - there are only four of us and we are all adults!

So what is HE detergent???

I can’t even cut the thing on. Too many dials and knobs, the formula for bleach and what not too is way to complicated. Y’all are correct she fears I’ll pour clorox I’m sumptin I’m not suppose to.

Still y’all are more fun when you’re tawking about all the other stuff that goes on CAF.
