DOGMATIC CONSTITUTION ON DIVINE REVELATION
DEI VERBUM #24
BY HIS HOLINESS
POPE PAUL VI
**Sacred theology
rests on the
WRITTEN :bible1: WORD **
OF
God,
together with sacred tradition,
as its primary and perpetual foundation.

By scrutinizing in the light of faith all truth stored up in the mystery of Christ, theology is most powerfully strengthened and constantly rejuvenated by that word. For the Sacred :bible1: Scriptures contain the word of God and since they are inspired really are the word of God; and so the study of the **sacred page **is, as it were, the soul of sacred theology. (3) By the same word of Scripture the ministry of the word also, that is, pastoral preaching, catechetics and all Christian instruction, in which the liturgical homily must hold the foremost place, is nourished in a healthy way and flourishes in a holy way.

+Actually . . . my statement was . . . "**Eternal :bible1: Scriptural teachings . . . such as these from St. Paul in **I Corinthians . . . which are recorded clearly in Sacred :bible1: Scripture . . . CANNOT . . . be brushed aside as a “custom only”."

. . . :bible1: . . .

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,
saith the **
Lord**.”
Isaiah 55:8

"Thy :bible1: word
is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path"
Psalm 119:105

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
by taking heed thereto according to
thy :bible1: word.”
Psalm 119:9

To this day the** custom **for men to uncover their heads in church and at prayer is almost exclusively practiced by the majority or Christians . . . and . . . in particular . . . headcoverings for women were Catholic Canon Law enforced until the middle of the last century .
That was what I was referring to. You have still not answered my question.
As I said, yes, it is the Word of God, but some things God inspires are as suggestions or guides and not necessarily law.
For instance, do we still keep the early christians’ practice of selling all their belngings and placing them at the Apostles’ feet? More to the point, do women not speak in church, contrary to St. Paul’s teaching that they should ask their husbands at home instead of speaking in the church?
There has to be a reason for continuing this tradition. Our attention was drawn to it by St. Paul, but that (to me) is not a sufficient reason for encouraging it and applauding those who follow it. Please answer me, because I need to finalise this issue now. It seems funny to be talking about this over and over! There are more important things to talk about and many virtues to be lived. I need closure, that’s why I posted on this thread in the first place. If there’s no answer, then please someone tell me.

The present Canon Law has no mention of veils for women, neither opposing or demanding.

Hi,

Before Vatican II all the women wore hats to church and dresses. You never saw a woman in slacks.

I was recently at a sung Mass and all the women wore skirts and chapel veils. I like that custom. I think it is more respectful and it would be nice if it was revived.

Respectful! Now that’s a good reason to dress well to mass! 👍

One of my friends had theopportunity of participating in the World Youth Day events in Spain, and she came back with tales of how shocked they all were to see ladies dressing in shorts and singlets to mass as if they just rolled out of bed or something. We were very sad to hear it.

The priests can handle the situation though by refusing communion to improperly or seductively dressed women. I’ve seen it done in a Parish and the priest announced to everyone that 6 people were denied communion and that women were required to dress in clothing that did not reveal their breasts or the skin above their knees.
Offenders would not be sent out of the church in the hope that God will soften their hearts and make them listen to Him and obey.
I thought it was a good thing to do!

That Bible quote was for “ready for the beach” part of our member GaryTaylor reply.
It wasn’t your bible quote I was talking about either. it was Jesus123’s long series of quotes

A priest with convictions and courage. A rare breed indeed.
Michael Voris had something to say about that too. People are surprised at how we here in the US dress for Mass. It wasn’t like that pre Vat 2

Priests don’t want to say too much. They don’t want to lose contributions.

That is a pity. I hope they live up to their responsibilities soon otherwise, they share in the irrverence ans sin.

Hmm I haven’t personally seen any men wearing head coverings at church services, but i do know a couple different Christian customs who do have women that have head coverings. Obviously we all know that prior to Vatican II all women wore head coverings in the CC and of course there are the few that still do. I also have attended some Black southern Baptist churches where the women are all ushers and they wear white and have white head coverings. My husbands mother belongs to a Hispanic Pentecostal sect and the women all wear white head coverings for all their services and prayer sessions.

I personally think that people when they go to church should look into the mirror to see if they are presentable to come into the presence of God. This applies to men and women. I would like to see women wear head covering in church.
