At Mass (we were visiting a different Parish this morning) a visitor was invited to speak immediately following the Homily. He introduced himself as a lay evangelist who was here to do a 3-day healing mission, stating that Jesus heals through his hands, and he invited all to come over the next 3 evenings. I forced myself to smile and tried my best to feel good about it, but it just seemed eerie to me. Am I making much of nothing? Was I being too picky in noticing he wore all black, even had unnaturally black hair, yet in his opening story mentioned the devil coming into a Church on a black cloud riding a black lightning bolt in a black cloud of smoke?

I have been told that I come across as rigid in my faith, so I try to be more relaxed and not judge what I do not understand. But is it rigidity or perhaps well-placed caution? I really don’t know; I just know it felt awkward to hear the presentation and invitation. Those words “I cannot force anyone to come, but don’t (blame Jesus) when you had the opportunity…” sound wierd to me. What ever happened to carrying our cross…

Anyone have experience with such things?

I have no idea

Inquire at the diocesan offices if this person is approved to appear in Catholic parishes and make his presentations. The bishop may have no knowledge of his missions and therefore he should not have been invited. Who is he? what has he published? who is sponsoring his mission? not enough info to give an intelligent answer
