I agree with you. I also think the Lord speaks to us all the time in quiet ways but not really spoken words as such. Like Elijah, like a voice in the gentle breeze. I think also with a lot of practice and patience and prayer you can learn to recognise those : nudges, whispers, inspirations etc. and know which is God, which is you and which ‘the other’. I am not saying you won’t ever be fooled, usually when you aren’t listening, but it seems to me that it’s possible. I personally have had that experience and also the more obvious, hey you are not listening ‘smack around the ears’ experience. Neither of which could be explained as a big booming voice, as such.
I also think that God knows us so well that He in His infinite wisdom would communicate in many many ways, rather than the traditional few we use and as He knows us so well, uses the most effective ones for each one of us at a particular moment in time, which may vary in time and between people. Anyway that’s my 2 cents worth.
