This is a weird question but a friend collects heart shaped rocks and stones. I was interested so I Googled it and apparently this is some kind of a thing.
Most, if not all but one or two of the websites I found, sounded New Agey.
But MY thought about collecting them was that they would represent God’s love.
Is this a New Age thing or a hobby for Christians, too?

A rock is a rock. It has no more significance that you personally wish to assign to it. If you find collecting heart shaped rocks a satisfying pastime, have at it. There nothing even remotely wrong with it.

It’s just that when googling it, New Agey words like “crystals” “metaphysical” “zen” “spirit guides” “meditation” “karma” etc. keep popping up, so is it still ok for a Christian to take this up as a hobby?

Well, now that you mention crystals, it occurs to me that many rock and mineral collectors collect crystals, and nope, there is nothing wrong with that either.

If some New-Ager is collecting hearts or crystals, that’s not a problem, and it certainly is not your problem, and you shouldn’t make it your problem.

Somewhere in my rock collection, I have a reddish-orange stone that is shaped somewhat like a human heart. I found the rock during recess in my school playground about 50 years ago, and it is one of my favorite rocks.

My mom found a heart shaped rock on the beach and always kept it. She passed away 23 years ago and I still carry that rock with me.
It holds good memories and reminds me of her.

You have doubts, It might be best not to collect them, and risk feeding your doubts. How many are there out in the wild to find? Genuine heart shaped rocks? Or are people selling them.

I own some heart shaped rocks. I bought them from a couple gift shops, like in an airport or near some tourist destination, because they’re pretty rocks shaped like hearts. No need to overthink it.

Everybody who likes rocks isn’t some New Age weirdo getting healing vibes from them. Nor do I need to read, or bother to read, websites when I want to have a pretty rock to look at and hold.
They’re rocks. It’s fine

My cousin Magdalene finds them everywhere! So do I…I find heart shaped everything though-leaves from trees, potato chips, lettuce leaves, stains on pots shaped like hearts, hearts in the wood on my deck…EVERYWHERE!!

People can do whatever they want to honor God. I happen to collect rosaries but even they shouldn’t be elevated to a demigodly status.

I use them to venerate Mary and worship our Lord. I don’t worship them unto themselves.

If a Satanist decided to also collect rosaries and bow down to them and all of a sudden the entire Satanist church made it into a thing to do, it’s not suddenly ungodly since they do it too…

Let’s be honest you could make cooking a lasagna a worship to God session. But the moment you put that lasagna on an altar and worship it…there’s a problem.

People do sell them, or at least companies do, but my friend says she finds them quite often.

I think only you can answer the question of what collecting heart shaped rocks would mean to you.

If you just want to collect them because they are pretty and look cool and make you feel good then it doesn’t matter what value or theology anyone else attaches to it.

If you think you would have a problem with attaching some new age beliefs to them as some others do then it is best to avoid them.

So, ask yourself, do you believe there is any kind of spiritual energy that might be in these rocks? Avoid them.

Do you believe they are just rocks that an interesting shape and you’d like to have some for that reason? Go for it.

I’d really like to find some sea glass but it’s never where we vacay, on the Gulf.

Before I reverted to Christianity, I used to meditate with crystals but I wasn’t comfortable with it and didn’t do it for long. I had my hubby throw them out.
The rocks I’ve been looking for aren’t crystals and I wouldn’t be meditating with them, I’d view them as pretty and a sign of love from God and His nature.

Then you should be fine! Get some that you especially like!

If ever you feel that you are starting to view them as you did with crystals, get rid of them…meanwhile, enjoy a simple hobby of heart shaped rocks that helps you love God. That can be very good.

Well, so far I’ve been looking around for a couple days and haven’t even found any, except three or four that you’d have to have a really vivid imagination to see a heart, so I tossed them. People say they see hearts everywhere they go, like HisDaughter.

Well, it requires a small stretch of the imagination, and the proportions may not be anatomically correct, but yes, the bodily organ.
