I know most people are just concerned about getting into heaven, but sometimes I have heard conversations about what it would be like and fear of the unknown. One conversation started because we were discussing our kids and co-workers and the traits they have. The sweet curmudgeon, the stubborn one, the son with the sharp wit, the artistic one, the impatient one…etc. If in heaven, all things are purged and we are pure love, do we have personalities? Although imperfect, we grow to love many of what are perceived as "imperfections’ by some. Mother Angelica wouldn’t be Mother without her impatience and caustic wit. That’s why after her stroke the sisters were sad because although she was sweet and holy, she wasn’t her “old self”. One sister cried because she missed that.
Of course, we all would be happy to be in heaven at all, but it’s hard to imagine it the way it was taught to me as a child. I’m not well read on other people’s interpetations, (saints, religious, etc.)
Anyone ever wonder if we would be “us” or recognize our relatives in heaven? Do you think there are homes or was that a euphemism for something else.

I’m into the Meyers-Briggs Temperament Indicator scene.

On one obscure pyschology forum, someone started a fascinating thread dealing with how will each personality type experience Heaven?

Sadly, the discussion was very short-lived, but meanwhile it came up with the following:

SJ guardian types would be the ones to most appreciate the “streets are paved with gold” aspect, the splendor and majesty that God shows.

Feelers would be likely to approach heaven with the emotional loving-and-being loved by God, as though in the manner of an eternal hug.

Thinkers would prefer a more intellectual everlasting learning and discovery experience along the lines of knowing-and-being known by God.

There’s a type that stands out to me because it reminds me of my dad, the ENTP, who will enjoy walking up to everybody whether he knows them or not and saying, “Hey … let’s swap life stories! What are some of the awesome things God’s done for you?”

Just some stray ramblings!

oh know, imagine St. Jerome, St Francis, Mother Teresa, Teresa of Jesus, Ignatius, all the others, without their distinct personalities. rather I think we will be transformed so that thequirks and eccentricities of others won’t bother us any more.

In order to be a Saint I believe that we must be our ‘self’ as God intended when He created us.

Some of what we see as flaws here really aren’t, it is something lacking in ourselves that sees the personality of another as a ‘flaw’. I say that because when we see a flaw in another which is a personality trait we are presuming to know the intent of another person.

It may well not be a fault or flaw at all.

If someone cannot bear with us nor we cannot bear with others then we are in effect rejecting personalities that are in Jesus.

My mother is a lovely woman. Whatever I am doing she will say to me ‘Crack on’, she’s irish and it means ‘get a move on’. If I am doing a job for her, whatever it is she will say ‘Crack on’. In my youth it used to drive me crazy. I felt she was so impatient with me and that I never did anything fast enough for her and sometimes it would make me angry when I was working as fast as I thought I could. However over the years I realise that my mother is not impatient, she realised I was a bit tardy, I would take my time, was methodical. Now it is a joke between us. She accepts that when I am working I am a planner and am methodical, I need time in my mind to prepare what I am doing, I think about the job and am in no rush and I accept she likes to ‘crack on’ with things. It’s different personalities. So when she does a job for me I always grin at her and say ‘Crack on Mother!’ and when I do things for her she always says with a grin ‘Now then, Crack on!’, we always have a good laugh over this.

Be who you are and in being who you are as God made you grow in His Likeness by His Love and Grace. You cannot be as Jesus is because you are you, but you are to grow in His likeness. It is the transforming union you are to seek and Jesus will lead you as the person you are to unity with the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity. All those personality traits being embraced and perfected in Him.🙂
