**Hebrews 6

**1Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,1] and of faith in God, 2instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3And God permitting, we will do so.
4It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because2] to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

What does this mean? Steve Ray uses this as scriptural proof for Confirmation, how so?

“With instruction about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.” (Hebrews 6:2)

Ablutions is another word for baptism, the laying of hands takes place next. The laying of hands is Confirmation, not Holy Orders.

“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Sama’ria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 8:14-17)

“And Paul said, ‘John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.’ On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve of them in all.” (Acts 19:4-7)

These two passages from the Acts of Apostles mention the sacrament of confirmation. The people were baptized and then the Apostles laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 6:2 mentions baptism followed by the laying of hands, just like Acts 8:14-17 and Acts 19:4-7 implying the laying of hands is Confirmation and not holy orders, as some Protestants believe.
