On another board, this question has been asked:
"I’m curious about something. I guess I’ve always assumed that the “official” scriptures, for example, those used in the temple or synagogue, would have been in Hebrew. Anyone know if that was the case? Like in Luke 4:17, was Jesus handed a Hebrew scroll or a Greek one?
It makes sense that individuals who had scripture (Paul, for example - 2 Tim 4:13) would have the LXX, but somehow I’d expect official Judaism to use Hebrew…"
No one has yet responded so I thought I’d ask here…
Did the synagogues outside of Palestine use Hebrew texts or Greek ones?
