I’m pretty sure he believed God came to earth, was born of a virgin, walked on water, raised the dead, healed the sick, died on a cross and rose from the dead too.
We all profess that, as did Galileo himself.

Spiritually, the Earth still is the center of the universe. As far as we know, there is no other life that has been redeemed by the Son of God and so it will remain.

Physically, there is no center, so we can choose any point in the universe a declare “Here is the center”. As one of the posters above declared Calvary the center.

The math gets more complicated, but it can be worked out. What some people choose to do is say “If the math is simpler, then this must be true” ( Occam’s Razor ). But that is just a tool used to make simpler theories the standard theory.

For example: It is true that I drove to the bus stop today at 25 mph. Assuming the earth is the center of the universe and immobile. I could do the math, assuming the Sun is the center and the fixed stars are immoble (I drove at about 67000 mph and got NO SPEEDING TICKET, but then so did the ground I was driving over). If I assume the galaxies are fixed, then I was moving even faster (about 486000 mph).

We use the geocentric computations because the math is so much simpler. In interplanetary flight, we use heliocentric computations. In travel to the stars I assume we will be using galactocentric computations. But there is no universal preferred frame of reference or center to the universe. I could using Portland Oregon as the center of the universe. It is where I was born. But I try not to live in an evan-centric world.

Flower Pattern of Planets - Geocentric

Nice. But whoever drew that has some problems.

Earth should be center (OK, got it)
Moon next (nearly a circle, missed that one)
Venus and Mars sort of overlap in the spirograph patterns as shown
Sun (nearly a circle, missed that one)
Outer planets in more spirograph patterns

Looks nice, but what a mess for NASA. Maybe heliocentric is best for solar system wide activities.

See it here:

Follow Object - earth
Turn on trails
Observer - earth
and then vary the target

The higher spiritual power in this case is the unanimous consent of the Church Fathers which the council of Trent said we must hold to.
Oooops.

You, and many, many others on this thread, have forgotten that the so-called “unanimouse consent” was limited to declared doctrines regarding God and His relationship with His created humans.

Regarding the thoughts of the Church Fathers.

We need to remember that the so-called “unanimous consent” was limited to Divine Revelation regarding God and His relationship (including purpose) with the human beings He created.

“the Holy Fathers, We say, are of supreme authority, whenever they all interpret in one and the same manner any text of the Bible, as pertaining to the doctrine of faith or morals; for their unanimity clearly evinces that such interpretation has come down from the Apostles as a matter of Catholic faith” (Providentissimus Deus, 1893, no. 14).
