I heard someone say this and I was not sure how to respond to it: We will not go to hell for eternity if we commit 1 mortal sin, the punishment out weighs the crime, they were talking of course if one dies unrepenting. What is a good arguement for this?

That’s an easy one. If you commit a mortal sin–even just one–you’ve chosen to reject God, and therefore there’s only one place to go. After all, you have to know the sin is grave, choose to do it, then do it. If you don’t know the sin is grave, well, you’re not cuplable.

Sounds like someone’s trying to weasle out of something…lol.

The passage of Scripture quoting Christ “Many will say, Lord, Lord…” If we are not in union fully with Christ He will say that He does not know us. Also Matthew 25 (yes all of it)

ANY unrepented sin is enough to get us sent to hell. :bigyikes:

No, any unrepented mortal sin is enough to thrust us into hell.

Whatever. We sin, we don’t repent, we die, we go to hell.

No. Unrepented MORTAL sin even one, go to hell.
Unrepented VENIAL sin only, go to purgatory, then to heaven.

“If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but not all sin is mortal” (1 John 5:16-17).

The reason it is called a mortal sin is because it causes death. We choose death by our actions. Hell is the second death. We really need to pray and offer sacrifices for the dying so that they will be given the graces they need so that even at the last moment when a soul hangs between life and death they can make a perfect act of sorrow and choose life. Let’s all pray for the dying and help Jesus snatch souls from the devil!

God bless!
