I found out last week that I am HIV positive. When I was in college, I lost my faith and slept around, and now I know God is punishing me. I am currently in my mid 30s and single, but up until now I have wanted to find someone and settle down. I don’t know what to do now. Who would want to be with someone in my condition?
I am so sorry, and you’ll be in my prayers.

Don’t despair. Medical treatment for HIV has come a long way. You need to speak with a doctor who has a lot of experience with it.

I"m very sorry to read this. I will keep you in my prayers.

Aside from making sure you are getting the right treatment, please also look into counseling, a support group, and even talk to your pastor. They will help guide you as to how to cope with living with this disease. From stories I have seen in the media, lots of HIV+ people are living full and happy lives.

Again, you’ll be in my prayers.

and now I know God is punishing me.
That is not consistent with Catholic theology. That’s something Pat Robertson would say. Speak to your priest or spiritual advisor about your spiritual needs, your physician about your medical needs, and a qualified therapist about your mental needs.

In my opinion, no good will come of talking about any of this with a bunch of random unqualified individuals on some internet forum.

Good luck, and my prayers are with you!

My father worked around HIV and AIDS patients handling their specimens in the laboratory. In his 40+ years of work, no laboratory workers contracted the virus.

At first, many patients were dying; however, many were also abusing drugs and that hastened their demise. Now people are living life normally. If you’re currently healthy, don’t panic!

I’m sorry. This is a tough break. However, you can give thanks you are living at a time when HIV is better understood, there are more treatment options, and many people who have it live long healthy lives.

This isn’t a punishment from God. It’s a bad logical consequence of a risky human behavior. One reason why society has tended to frown on promiscuity throughout history is that it tends to spread nasty diseases. The particular disease has just changed over the centuries.

I’d suggest looking to see if there are support groups for those living with HIV. You may just meet a nice lady who is in the same boat as you.

Im sorry for that. Must be really hard for you. Hope you found someone 🙂
