In case you haven’t heard, Catholic Charities of Boston (which recently announced they were sponsoring adoptions by gay couples) is now planning to honor the pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage Mayor of Boston this Friday, December 9. A group of faithful Catholics is asking people to sign a petition to the Mayor and Archbishop asking for the Mayor to be removed from the event.

Menino calls the controversy “much ado about nothing,” though he is clearly incensed with activists criticizing him for his longstanding support of the gay community. "This is, once again … the right wing was trying to divide. I’ve been a supporter of the gay rights movement since day one. I’ll always be.”

Mayor Menino refers to those campaigning to have him ousted from Catholic Charities event as “blinded by anger” and “not charitable at all.” He also erroneously stated, ''When the pope speaks on doctrine, that is absolute. I don’t think choice and gay marriage are doctrine."

Disagreement over Mayor Thomas Menino’s views on abortion and same-sex marriage has prompted Archbishop Sean O’Malley to cancel plans to attend the annual Catholic Charities Christmas dinner next month.
