Hi -I am having a difficult time defending a discussion in regards to the election and the usual non-negotiable items. I have been told I am blindly following church teaching (I do not believe so) and that we Catholics do not think for ourselves, that we are told everything we have to do and just follow. How can I defend/discuss this?

In addition, I have been also questioned as to why do the other Catholics this person knows, do not care so much about abortion, contraception , etc. I usually state it is due to poor catechesis, but get pressed for more of an answer. Any thoughts on this as well?

Thanks in advance and may God bless you all!

I find the term “blindly following church teaching” laughable.
Well DOH.
Of course we follow our church teaching on these serious moral matters. Else we’d be rightly called hypocrites.
I’d say I’d much rather be right with God than be called a hypocrite by men.
Or God.

Live your life with dignity honor, and faith.
Eventually some will be moved by your stance for the truth. But realize, that many have already bought into the culture of death. All you can do is prayer for their eyes to be opened.
God bless you.

Why do some who imagine themselves Christians not care about the Holocaust of abortion? That is a very tough question, one for which there is no easy answer. Satan is not called the Great Deceiver, the Master of Lies for nothing.

If your actions would be different from blindly following the church and simply following church teaching then you are not the Catholic you think you are.

🙂 Welcome to having to defend your faith! Here’s how I might respond…and these may or may not be helpful.

Is there something wrong with blindly following Christ and His teachings? Isn’t our faith supposed to be a “blind faith”? Just because I don’t agree with something doesn’t mean I set myself above Christ and His Church. I submit myself to the Will of God even when I disagree with Him and His Church.

And why should you think I am simply blindly following what the Church teaches just because I value the life of EVERY human, from conception to natural death? Are “blind Catholics” the only people who care for moral living and protecting the innocent and helpless people being killed in their mothers’ wombs?
In addition, I have been also questioned as to why do the other Catholics this person knows, do not care so much about abortion, contraception , etc.
Why does it matter? Are those other Catholics “right” just because they don’t value the same things I value? If you want to know why those other Catholics don’t value the life of the unborn innocent, or value the sanctity of the Marital Act, you’ll have to ask them. I can’t answer for other people as to why they don’t place value on morality.
