I seem to remember a verse somewhere in one of the epistles that conveys the basic meaning that if you’re out of town visiting a church, that you should observe that church’s local customs or traditions. I tried searching on all of the keywords that I can think of, but I’m coming up blank. Is my memory playing tricks on me, or is there such a verse out there somewhere? Thanks.

I am not exactly sure, but there certainly is a theme in the Epistles of people in the CHurch starting to stray, and the purpose of the writings being to help “the saints” understand what is important and to remain unified. Romans 16, 1 Cor 1 are examples. I wonder if this is what you remember?

Maybe it’s St Ambrose you’re thinking of … Si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more, loosely translated as “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

Perhaps it is a general priniciple you are thinking of?

The various churches had differences based on the Jewish observances (The mosaic LAW), and such.
Even though the only question addressed is the eating of meats sacrificed to Idols, the general principle extends to the whole of 't’raditions as well, which I would expect to vary based on the church.
Gentile-Christian gatherings were different than Jewish-Christian synagoges/gatherings.

See Romans 14 : all, 15, and I corintians 8:10.

Or perhaps it is the danger of division in the church setting?

1Cor 11:17

hmmm…
