Is there anyone out there that is a catechist or knows of any online resources or publications for catechists? I started teaching catechism to 5th graders at my church and I want to improve my abilities. Also, if anyone would like to share some helpful hints, that would be appreciated too. Thanks.

Hey Ruben -

This is my first year teaching CCD - and I have 5th grade as well! I’ve no profound advice - am happy you began this thread.

We use the Faith First series, and they do have resources online that I’ve been browsing…

Any advice welcomed here as well!

please do a search, there are many other threads on this topic with great help.
www.lifeeternal.org
catechismclass.com (or .org, I forget which)
the catechist manual for the textbook series you are using is a goldmine, and usually has a website.
Have your DRE show you what other resources the parish has–bet she has books, videos, teaching aids galore back in her office.

I’ve read some of the documents on standards and goals from the Marian Catechists website. Very impressive. If I didn’t need to work 15 hours a day to pay the bills I’d seriously consider their course. It would qualify someone to teach at any level, not only children. The Marian Catechists recognize what the Holy Father has taught consistently over his pontificate, that catechesis does not stop at grade school and is an integral part of evangelization.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. I need it. I remember someone once saying that God doesn’t call the qualified, but qualifies the called. That’s about how it feels.
