*Help* Holy Thurs, Good Friday, Holy Saturday ... :)

Hello my fello Catholic friends !!! As this is only my ‘2nd’ Easter as a true converted Catholic I forgot how I did things last Easter as it was my ‘first’ time … I attend mass ‘daily’ at 7AM … so on HOLY Thursday and GOOD Friday do the ‘early’ masses ‘count’ as the ‘holy masses’ or do I need to go back in the evening ? Not to sound weird (please dont think I am) but I want to make sure I’m always doing the RIGHT THING ! Thanks so much !!!

The next three days, the Triduum are unique liturgically. There should be only one Mass on Holy Thursday and that is the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper. There is no mass celebrated on Good Friday. We gather, usually at 3PM for the reading of the passion, adoration of the cross, and holy communion. On Holy Saturday again there is no mass except for the great Vigil after dark.

Please check your parish schedule for the next three days. As Joannm said, the Triduum is very special with specific liturgies. There won’t be regular morning Masses on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, or Holy Saturday.

On Thursday morning the Chrism Mass may happen at the cathedral. Sometimes that Mass is scheduled for a bit before Holy Week also.

The great liturgy of the triduum starts Thursday evening with the Mass representing the Last Supper, it ends with the stripping of the altar and the Host is placed in the Altar of Repose away from the tabernacle, which is empty.

Then on Good Friday there is no Mass. Your parish might have a communion service and/or Stations of the Cross or another traditional service (Last Words of Christ, etc.).

On Holy Saturday the only Mass is the Easter Vigil.

If you can attend the evening Masses they are wonderful. However, we are not obligated to attend any of them (you do have to go to Mass on Easter Sunday though! ). If going to an evening Mass is difficult for you, rest assured that you are not obligated.

Actually if you attend the Easter Vigil that fulfills your obligation for Easter Sunday. While it certainly won’t hurt to attend both Saturday night and Sunday morning, it’s not required - one or the other is sufficient.

Correct. However if the problem is being up late or driving in the dark, etc., a nice Easter Sunday morning Mass is perfect.

Thanks so much everyone! Certainly helped to check my bulletin on the website of my church because I was acutally out of town for a few days and missed my bulletin (kids on spring break) … I’m SO glad they posted it on the webpage and thank GOD for these forums! I was all set to get up tomorrow morning at 7AM and go to my mass that I missed for the past few days! LOL! I’m still ‘new’ to the ‘holy week’ of Easter (and the different masses etc) !!! Thanks so much my friends !!!

Just be aware that the Holy Thursday and especially the Vigil Mass will be longer than an ordinary Sunday Mass. The Vigil can last three hours or more if they do all the readings and have many baptisms.
