I followed a tutorial for how to remove wallpaper and it was going ok until I realized there were 4 layers of wallpaper. So I kept peeling and peeled off huge sections of the outer layer of the wall all while my husband was outside cooking. šŸ˜”

Its down to the cardboardy layers. Is there anything that can be done besides replacing the wall?

You could apply some premixed joint compound and feather it out. Sand it smooth after it dries and prime before painting. It should be fine. I have fixed worse, lol!

Thin layers work better, and applied a few times, by the way.

Take a hammer to it. (Just kidding, I have no idea how to fix it)

I was using a scoring tool, a wet rag and some solution. It was going well but it became pretty obvious that the next layer down was just painted wallpaper. Whe i accidentally knicked into that I was like, well may as well take that off. That’s when my descent past more and more layers of wallpaper began and ended in tragedy.

Who wallpapers over wallpaper four times? No respect.

@Irishmom2 thank you! I didn’t even know what combination of search terms to Google describe what I had done. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Use a steamer, you can rent one. I’ve taken layers of wallpaper off with them and nothing works better.

I have done this in the past and to about the same size area. Go to lowes they will have what you need to repair it. Just when you sand it use a board that is about 3 ft long. That will help keep it flat

Oh, you wouldn’t believe how many!

When my brother in law was house hunting, one of his requirements was that no home repairs were done by anyone other than a professional. The realtor asked him, ā€œHow can I tellā€. He told her he’d have a look at could tell her in three minutes flat! He found a nice home that hadn’t been remodeled…he was a happy camper! He can do it because he knows what he’s doing…except electrical…his brother does that for him…ie. My husband!

if that’s drywall, you just mix a bit of sparkle, apply it, and then scrape it level. Then you just paint or wallpaper over it, just like wall.

If that’s a big chunk out of the wall, it’s still easy. You basically put sticks/shims behind the wall, use drywall screws or glue to hold it in place, and use it for a support for a piece of drywall you cut (or the original). You use another couple of screws to hold the patch to the shim you just put there. If the gaps are any size, theres mesh tape you put over it, then sparkle.

Drywall is easy to fix, and looks good as new when you’re done.

Plaster, on the other hand . . .

Oh, and Lowes has an easy page on drywall repair. It really is as easy as it makes it sound.

It’s not done, but things are looking up! You all, Youtube and the first person I ran into at Home Depot were all a huge help.
