I have been feeling a real strong call to help in my son’s RCIA class. I have prayed about it over and over and I still feel the same way. I am scared to death to stand up in front of people and talk and I have NO idea why I am being called to this…other people’s kids scare me to death!!! The only thing I think it can be is the Holy Spirit. I am 28 years old and I was just confirmed back in October and because of this I am worried that some people won’t want me to do this or take me seriously. Please pray for me and any advice would be very helpful.

You can be part of the team without teaching. Usually when someone starts on our RCIA team without too much expereince, we put them in charge of hospitality or just have them as part of the team and they contribute as part of the conversations. This gives them the confidence that they will need if they choose to eventually teach.

if you thing the HOly Spirit is calling you, you are probably right. even if he sounds like a middle-aged church lady.

you will probably begin as an aide or co-teacher, unless they are really desparate they won’t put you in charge of a class on your own without more experience. RCIA is typically done as a team in any case.

one caveat, many catechists find that helping in their own child’s class doesn’t work, depends on you and your child, some are too clingy, some expect you do make things easy for them, some resent attention paid to other children. some like mine just did not want to be in my class. but you can still help with the program in another class. go for it.

there is no better way to learn more about the Faith than to teach it to others. you will grow spiritually in ways you have never imagined in this ministry.

Just an update, I talked to our RCIA director at church today and told her how I felt I was being led to help teach in the children’s RCIA class. She told me that she would LOVE the help because one of the 2 teachers left to teach another class and the only teacher in the program found out recently that her husband has bad heart problems and is living on borrowed time:( (please pray for him) and she is leaving after all the kids that are in this group come in at Easter. So I guess they were really needing someone…funny how the Lord works!!!😃 Please pray for me as I try to do God’s will. Thank you guys…
