Ralph,

This is only an issue if the church he wants them to be a part of is non-Christian.

We have to trust the Lord to bring us along. Being part of a messed up church with the right Jesus is much different than being part of a cult.
I understand what you are saying, I am just having trouble processing it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not questioning the Scriptures. It is just that they were writen when there was one form of Christianity.

It’s not an if/then situation Canne.

Elsewhere Paul tells Christian spouses that they are not free to separate from unbelieving spouses if there is no desire to separate. This would imply that the order written into matrimony would endure the situation as well.

Also, again, we’re talking about a real life situation, not a hypothesis. The author of the OP is not talking about being married to a differently minded unbeliever, or perhaps you mean to say that non-Catholic Christians do not have Jesus?
Thank you for your response. I was not speaking of the OP’s situation and should have stated that as my question was off topic and surely I do not believe that non-Catholic Christians do not have Jesus.

Back to my somewhat off topic question.

When the Scripture speaks of wives obeying and submitting to their husbands, it cannot mean that every wife must obey her husband always in everything. Can it? Isn’t she, as well as he, responsible to obey what the Spirit gives each to do? The husband does not lead the wife into all truth since this is the work of the Holy Spirit. There are several accounts in the Word of God where we see submission to God over submission to husbands. For example, ** I Samuel 25:4-42**. Abigail was a woman who knew God. She was the wife of Nabal, an ungodly husband. She realized her husband’s refusal to give gifts unto David’s men endangered her whole household. On her own initiative she took food and rode to meet David. She was a wise woman–by disobeying her husband, she saved his life, for David would have slain him. She saved not only her husband’s life, but also her own and her household’s lives and possessions. She also found favor with David and with God. Her wicked husband Nabal died shortly after this as his heart was cold toward God. If any man, husband or otherwise, would ask us to do something that Jesus would not sanction, then we must refuse to do it. Shouldn’t we? We should also do and apply those things that the Holy Spirit would speak to us to do. We must obey Him over what man would say to us. If it is truly the Lord speaking to us, He will deal with the one who is wrong.
Such as that of Mary (Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-25). She yielded to what God asked her to do without asking Joseph what he thought about it. In fact, he wanted to put her away when he found out she was pregnant. Surely Mary tried to explain to Joseph that this child was conceived by the Holy Ghost, but he could not receive her explanation until the Lord sent an angel to confirm to him that she indeed had heard the Lord. This is a case where a woman submitted to God first, and then the Lord dealt with her husband showing him she had heard the Lord.
Genesis 16:5-6 is another example there is a disagreement between Sarah and Abraham. On this occasion, Abraham conceded and allowed Sarah to have her way. God justified her for this in** Genesis 21:10-12** when the question came up again. God told Abraham to obey Sarah.

Would it not be in keeping with Scripture to say Wives are to submit to their husbands as long as it does not mean disobedience to the Holy Spirit or Christ?

I called the local parish and was referred to the “answer guy” who encouraged me and my husband to just be happy to be protestant. I’m not sure what to make of that. He sounded like a nice guy and everything. He chided me for asking whether he thought it was important for my children to be baptized (“Do you believe in a God who would send little children to hell? We don’t believe that anymore, either!”).
So I’m not sure where to go from here.
Call another parish! That answer guy was wrong about the importance of baptism. Yes, baptism is necessary for salvation, except in extraordinary circumstances. (We do trust in God’s mercy where unbaptized children are concerned - but it is still our responsibility to get them baptized!)

And encouraging you to “be happy to be protestant” sounds like indifferentiation to me - the belief that all faiths are the same. We believe our Church has the fullness of truth, and is therefore the best one. There is a difference between churches.

Call another parish!

God bless you,

Ruthie

Is his title “answer guy”? I mean, is he a deacon? A seminarian? Or the maintanance guy?
I agree with Ruthie in any case. No one should be fielding calls that is not qualifyed to do it. I dealt with a priest directly. I did not call any answer guy type.:nope:

Thanks Ruthie and…
Notsmart (it’s one thing to call yourself that but it feels weird for me!)

Sooo, just call the same number I called before and ask if I can talk directly to a priest?

That sounds like a stupid question but, that’s how it works?

Sure can. How I did it, was I went to mass. The priest tried to speak with me afterward as I was still there after everyone left. I got scared though, and sorta ran out after saying a basic greeting.
Then, I went again. We talked a few minutes. He told me to call the parish office to have them put me though to him. Our parish does have an automated system if you call after office hours that hooks you right into their line, and they have voice mail. They do check their messages. They do call you back! I got an appointment to see him and he was really flexible to meet with me.
They are surprisingly approachable.🙂

And, its not a stupid question at all. As you can see, I did not exactly know how to go about it.

I hope it works out for you.🙂

AlwaysAsking,
Just so you know, NotSmart is very smart. She just doesn’t like to show off. You can trust most of what she says.
